Help my son Jordan Garza on His Long Road to Recovery
On the evening of February 1, 2025, our world was turned upside down when my son, Jordan, was struck by a vehicle illegally exiting the highway while he was on the service road. The impact left him with severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury (TBI)—an uphill battle that will take months, if not years, of rehabilitation.
Jordan sustained multiple fractures and internal injuries, including:
- Four fractured ribs (two on each side)
- Left collarbone fractured in two places
- Fractured ulna (small bone in his right arm)
- Slightly punctured right lung
- Multiple facial fractures (left orbital, right supraorbital, bilateral ethmoid, and nasal bone)
- Scattered road rash abrasions
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI), including a subdural hematoma
- Multiple lacerations
Due to the severity of his injuries, he underwent a left craniectomy, a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain.
Jordan's Current Fight
Jordan spent over three weeks in the ICU trauma center at Medical City Plano, from February 1 to February 24. He was then moved to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), where he will likely remain until early April. From there, we’re working to have him accepted and transported to TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston for inpatient rehabilitation.
Because his brain injury affected the left side of his brain, he will need extensive rehabilitation—physical, occupational, and speech therapy—to regain his independence. This is just the beginning of a long and difficult journey for him and our family.
