"Jordan is very interesting case and interesting eye muscle movements." - Doctor notes - June 20, 2022 (grammar issues and all)

My name is Jordan (the girl referenced in the quote and title - Hi!) and I'm going to bore you with a story...but I'll try to be funny.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at first flattered by the Doctor's Note...but then it stuck with me. Yes - I am an interesting case. I've had "interesting" eye muscle movements for a while...and honestly thought I'd have to live with it forever.

I was born with Craniosynostosis and when I had surgery to correct it as a baby, my left eye decided to wander, or "misalign" to use the correct term. Then, when I was prescribed glasses as a teenager, I tried so hard to "correct" my left eye by solely looking out of it, my right eye muscles became weak and misaligned as well. I entered adulthood with two misaligned eyes and the inability to look out of both eyes at the same time, sometimes unable to focus and having to choose which eye to use.

At one point, I figured, "Well, then... no eye contact with anyone ever. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then my poor windows are chipped and cracked and I will have no connections to anyone ever." I began covering one of my eyes with my hair and settled with being alone (yeah, yeah, pool unfortunate soul *misaligned eye-roll*)

But then I had my first Ophthalmologist appointment in June 2022 and was told for the first time: I *could* get my eyes fixed. It's possible. As an adult in my 30s, I *can* do something about it. Two words: Strabismus surgery.

Okay, I'll need more than two words: Strabismus surgery to fix my Hypertropia of the left eye and Brown's tendon sheath syndrome of the right eye.

What does that mean? Surgery - obviously, got that part. But Strabismus? What is that?!?

Essentially, my eyes need to have their muscles tightened to help with my misaligned eyes and make them more manageable.

However (as with most things in life) it costs money. How much? Well, as of April 15th, I don't have the exact amount from the Medical Center, however, I do have a few numbers (wish I had a more proper estimate but *shrug*) and a date (November 15h - due to my surgeon having cataract surgery in June - so, yeah....let my surgery date stay in November)

But in all seriousness, I was only given an estimate for how much it cost to fix each eye muscle from a previous client's cost ($3800) and according to Google, each eye has six eye muscles - meaning both eyes total twelve muscles, meaning I may need all 12 muscles fixed, costing $45,600 (and, sadly, I don't know if that amount includes anesthesia or medicine or even a funky paper gown).

However, I checked with the Insurance Provider and found that after I met my deductible, they would cover 90% of the costs.

Now, in theory, if all of my eye muscles needed to be fixed, that would come to a total of $4,560.

Also, because my surgery will be taking place two hours away from where I live, I will need a hotel room to stay in town for the surgery and 1st Post-Op Appointment (the following day), as well as any medication needed for recovery.

So -- I'm hoping that means if I set the goal of $5,000, it might be enough. It might. Maybe. (*fingers crossed*)

Please note: I will be saving money to cover my deductible and gas money, and I am taking vacation time for my recovery.

But the surgery, board, and medicine? Those costs I will need help: From people who I can't even look in the eye.

Whoops.

ANYWAYS - if you made it this far, you're an amazing human being and I appreciate you! If you can donate, I will be forever grateful. If not, please share/boost the link (if you can).

I know it's a while away (7 months) - but I want to prepare. I want to hope and to be able to have the world see me beyond my eyes. I want them to see just me - not just my wandering eyes.

Thank you for your time - and I promise to update EVERYTHING the moment I get official estimates.

Love (or like - I'm not picky),

Jordan
