Help Jordyn Fund a Psychiatric Service Dog
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jackie and I am fundraising on behalf of my daughter Jordyn to go towards purchasing a psychiatric service dog. The cost is astronomical but I feel the benefits to her far outweigh the expense.
I have been on a leave from work since April to provide 24/7 supervised care for Jordyn. Raising two children with complex special needs and making ends meet is a challenge.
I have never been one to ask for support for myself. I have navigated through hard times solo many times in the past, however I am putting my pride aside to help my baby girl who is drowning right now.
Psychiatric service dogs are service animals trained to assist with mental illnesses. Jordyn struggles daily with panic attacks, depression, night terrors, PTSD, and there are safety concerns for her well being.
Her psychologist supports and recommends the service dog as being a great tool to help in her healing, but sadly applications for funded service dogs are not being accepted right now due to high demand so All expenses must be paid out of pocket,
K-9 Country Inn in Meaford offers a unique trainer assisted owner trained service dog who will meet her individual needs. Jordyn wakes every night riddled with night terrors. After talking to the owner, she told me among other things, her dog would be trained in deep pressure therapy. Essentially he would gently wake her up out of her night mare, pull her blankets down, and give deep pressure massage until she settles back to sleep. When she is crying and sad they offer comfort. Her dog would follow her along in her schooling, and be her companion.
After much internal struggle I have decided I am going to try to reach as many people, businesses, and organizations as I can to reach our goal.
The first hurdle is purchasing the puppy which is $3700.00, and the remaining funds of another $25,000 to follow. (like I said astronomical)
I acknowledge this is a huge goal to reach. If the fundraiser falls flat or we don't reach our goal, then it just isn't meant to be and we will use the funds to purchase our own puppy, and provide some training.
A year ago, I wouldn't have ever considered asking this of people, and that amount of money to raise I would say is impossible to achieve , but my perspective has changed in so many ways this year. The kids and myself have overcome hurdles I truly never thought we could, and indeed anything is possible. As my dad would say, "If it's meant to be it's up to me", and regardless my children are worth the effort to at least try.
I ask that you please take a minute and share this post to anyone and everyone you possibly can, and Ithank you in advance for your support.
** One other note is that we have legally changed Ava's name to Jordyn, just so people know it is indeed her**
