Help Support Jose’s Family After a Devastating Medical Emergency
My dear gardener and friend of over 10 years, living in Jose in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is facing an unimaginable tragedy and urgently needs our help.
His beloved wife, Savina, who was pregnant, developed preeclampsia and tragically suffered a stroke during childbirth. She was rushed into emergency neurosurgery and placed in an induced coma in intensive care.
Miraculously, Savina is now awake. She has a tracheotomy to help her breathe, and while she cannot speak yet, she is aware of her surroundings and can move her eyes and fingers. Her doctors have made it clear: immediate and ongoing rehabilitation is critical to give her a chance at recovery.
Jose and Savina have a large, loving family doing all they can to care for both her and their newborn baby. But they are not financially equipped to handle the extensive medical and caregiving expenses. Jose has already used much of his limited savings traveling back and forth between their home in San Miguel and the hospital in León—an hour and a half away—while continuing to work as much as he can to support his family.
Their newborn is being cared for by relatives while Jose works, and the family is also helping with Savina’s daily care. Still, the cost of rehabilitation in Mexico—$15 to $25 per session—along with medications, equipment, and infant formula and diapers, is overwhelming. Savina is unable to breastfeed, adding to the expenses.
I’ve also spoken with my acupuncturist, who is also a medical doctor, and he strongly believes acupuncture could significantly support Savina’s recovery if started now.
I’m reaching out to ask for your support—any amount you can give will go directly toward Savina’s rehabilitation, medical care, and baby essentials. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference.
Jose is one of the kindest, most hardworking people I know. He also works for Bob and Chandra, who share in our heartbreak over what his family is going through.
