Help Josh get Top Surgery
Donation protected
My name is Joshua and I am FTM (female-to-male) transgender. I made this gofundme the price of my top surgery. I was supposed to get top surgery at the McLean Clinic in Mississauga, Ontario on, March 9th, 2021. Sadly, it got cancelled because of a past surgery I got in 2018. The 2 procedures done were called:
1. Flexible Nasopharyngoscopy and laryngoscopy
2. Medialization thyroplasty for the left vocal cord with Silastic Implant.
The breathing tube I would need during surgery could potentially damage my already paralyzed vocal cord or could damage the implant from the previous surgery.
Instead of getting top surgery at the McLean clinic, I now have to get surgery with a surgeon who can perform it in a hospital. On June 29th, 2021 I got top surgery with Dr. John Semple at the Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
At the McLean Clinic the surgery was going to cost only $9,600. Now that I got surgery in a hospital where there are more fees, the surgery cost $14,125. I am a full time university student and it would really mean the world to have this surgery paid for.
Reasons For This GoFundMe and Getting Top Surgery:
1. School - The only break I have from university is from May 2021 until September 2021. So I really need to get top surgery before this time to keep my grades my top priority.
2. Dysphoria - I would like to get top surgery before September 2021 because we will most likely be in class again instead of online classes. I would feel so much better and comfortable in my own skin if I didn’t have to wear a binder and I could have a flat chest. I remember when I was going through puberty and I noticed my chest started developing in the shower. I broke down and I kept trying to push my chest back into itself so it was flat, but nothing worked.
3. Physical Pain - After binding for almost the past 4-5 years. The physical pain has really caught up to me as well. I am unable to wear my binder for long periods of time because of this pain. It got to the point where I had to go to the emergency room because, even though I wasn’t wearing my binder, It felt like it was still on and someone was squeezing my ribs and chest.
If I don’t get top surgery before September 2021, I am going to have to stop binding in public because of the physical pain it causes me. I don’t even want to think about the mental pain that I will have to go through and the increase in dysphoria that I will feel.
Any donation or share of my gofundme is greatly appreciated. I can’t thank you all enough for the love and support.
