Who am I?
Greetings everyone! My name is Jovan Filipovic and I am currently studying double bass at Codarts University in Rotterdam, Netherlands. I originally come from Belgrade, Serbia.
What is my passion and where it all started?
From a very young age, I was interested in music and it didn't take me long to decide that I want to devote my life to it.
Everything began back in Serbia with the guitar of my older brother, on which I enjoyed playing the same chords over and over. Those chords became part of my small compositions, as I explored what music had to offer. Later, I tried clarinet, but ended up playing double bass in the Music School “Stankovic''.
During my time in “Stankovic'', I had many successful concerts as well as competitions and I was looking forward to studying abroad. The competitions include multiple 1st prizes at Republic competitions as well as two Grand Prix awards in the International ''Astana Vision contest'' and ''Music October'' competition. All those achievements helped me get selected in the preliminary round upon my application to Codarts, and also to receive the Holland Scholarship that is awarded to the three most promising applicants coming from outside the EU. Although I miss being in Serbia, Codarts University gives me everything that I need to follow the career I want to have and it is where I need to be right now.
My passion lies in performing, making music, teaching and working with children. There is nothing that gives me more joy than bringing music closer to young people, I believe that it is very important to help children explore as many emotions as possible while they are young, and there is no better way to do so than through art. Furthermore, music brings people together in a certain kind of magic that happens in the moment where all the people share the same emotions at the same time. Music is the most universal language, the language of the soul. That is why performing and making music is extremely important to me, as I wish to bring more of those moments into people’s lives.
What do I need funding for?
Unfortunately, since I am not from the EU, my study expenses are far greater as I pay for the institutional tuition fee which is very high. That is the only obstacle I need to overcome so that I can continue studying at Codarts.
If you think that music is very important; if you wish to bring young people closer to music as well as to help make memorable moments for people of all ages, please consider helping me pursue my studies because that is what I am studying for!
