Help Jovita Solano's Family with Funeral Costs

Donation protected

I have started a GoFundMe for the children of my dearly beloved comadre with whom I shared 3 grandchildren. Jovita Solano was the most hardworking single mother I’ve ever known. She worked for over 17 years as a janitor at Google, took the bus to work everyday, and was forced to medically retire due to the Covid Pandemic. Jovita had received an organ transplant about 20 years ago but she kept working while supporting her 4 children - including her youngest with Down Syndrome - on her own. Regrettably, the transplant began to have rejection issues, leading to her passing on August 22, 2024, in the ICU at Stanford Hospital. I met Jovita when her son and my daughter began dating over 15 years ago, and they later married and had 3 children. Jovita spoke English about as well as I spoke Spanish, but we always understood each other. We were both in the delivery room when my first grandchild was born, and she confidently coached my daughter through the birth. I can honestly say I’ve never known a stronger single mother. She arrived in California from Mexico more than 40 years ago to work and support her two oldest children who remained in Mexico with Jovita’s parents. She gave birth to 4 children in California whom she raised essentially alone. They struggled, but she was a determined survivor and worked every day of her life until her body could not. She was a loving, protective mother and grandmother for whom family meant everything. Because of a language barrier, she was not able to receive her pension or 401-K retirement funds from her SEIU janitors’ union since leaving Google in 2020. She has lived on a very minimal social security monthly payment since then, while caring for her dependent son and attending dialysis appointments 3x per week on the bus. Jovita’s life was a lesson in determination and survival. In honor of this most wonderful mother and grandmother, we wish to commemorate her devout Catholic faith with a funeral and burial and marker stone to properly honor her memory. Her young adult children need help to do this. If you could be so kind to donate to help honor this beautiful woman’s life, they can send her on her journey back to the Lord with dignity and respect, and most of all, love.

Any donation will mean the world to her children, and to me, her co-Grandma, comadre, and friend. Jovita, you were truly loved and we will always love you. You live on in our hearts forever.
