Help Joy and Mady Recover from Hurricane Helene

Donation protected
Dear friends and compassionate strangers, my name is Hope Overturf and I am reaching out to share the story of my incredible mother-in-law, Joy, and my sister-in-law, Mady, who have faced an unimaginable tragedy.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, they lost almost everything they owned. 13 storage totes, a microwave, and a dog crate are all they were able to save from their home. Their flooring, drywall, heating and AC, all of their appliances, furniture, and back deck all need to be replaced in order for them to move back into their house. Mold had taken over everything and mold remediation had to be done.

This loss is particularly devastating given their circumstances. Joy has dedicated her life to serving others as a firefighter and EMT, but after a serious work-related injury, she was permanently disabled. Despite her challenges, she has remained a beacon of strength and resilience for her adult daughter Mady, who is autistic and relies on Joy for support. Together, they live on a limited disability income, making this loss even more challenging to bear.

Joy and Mady have always been there for others, whether it’s volunteering at their church, helping me raise my children, or fostering over 70 animals in need. They embody kindness and generosity, often putting the needs of others before their own. Asking for help has always been challenging for them, but now they find themselves in desperate need of support.

Unfortunately, they did not have flood insurance, and the road to recovery will be long and difficult. We are seeking your help to provide them with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference in helping Joy and Mady rebuild and be able to move back into their home.

Please consider donating to help them recover from this disaster. Your support will not only help them rebuild their home but will also restore hope during this challenging time. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
