About Joy Café Wokingham & My Dad

Joy Café Wokingham isn’t just a place for great coffee and homemade treats—it’s a community. My dad, the heart and soul behind Joy Cafe, opened this little cafe in Wokingham just under 5 years ago, July 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic. Since then, it’s grown into something far more than a business; it’s become a gathering spot for friends, families… a community. My dad has always believed in the power of connection, and it shows in every cup he serves, in every galettes he prepares and every brownie he bakes. Oh did I forget to mention that everything they prepare is gluten free with loads of vegetarian and vegan options... how cool is that?

Why We Need Your Help

Right now, though, he’s ready to take the cafe to the next level, and I want to help him do it. Joy Cafe has become a beloved spot in Wokingham, and we’re so grateful to our amazing customers who’ve helped us get to this point. The cafe is thriving, but we’ve reached a point where we know we need to grow in order to continue serving our community and spreading the joy. We want to rethink the space to accommodate more customers, invest in a larger kitchen that will allow us to bake even more of the fresh brownies, and treats that our customers love—bringing even more delicious options to the table.

What we’re looking to do in 2025:

Expand the cafe to make more space for customers to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere he’s worked so hard to create.
Build a kitchen next door where he can prepare his shakes, crepes, galettes, brownies, and other delicious treats from scratch.
Buy and revamp a small delivery car so he can bring the Joy Cafe experience to nearby markets, sharing our amazing products with more people and spreading the joy beyond our cafe’s walls.

Why It Matters:

This cafe isn’t just a business—it’s a passion. My dad, over the years, has poured his heart and soul into Joy Cafe. It's not just about selling great food and drinks; it's about creating a space where people feel seen, heard, and cared for. Every time someone walks in, whether they're a regular or a first-timer, they’re met with a warm welcome and a sense of belonging.

Over the years, my dad has shown what true resilience looks like. I’ve seen him face challenges—some that most people would give up over—but he always gets back up, stronger than before. His dedication to his dream and to the people who support him is unwavering. He’s never allowed any setback to stop him from moving forward, and that’s one of the many reasons why Joy Cafe means so much to me, and to our community.

But even heroes need a hand sometimes. Right now, my dad has big dreams for Joy Cafe, but he needs the resources to bring those dreams to life.

The new kitchen will allow him to scale his bakery side of the business, making fresh cakes and brownies from scratch every day. Not only will it help increase the variety and availability of his products, but it’ll also improve the overall quality and allow him to experiment with new items. The delivery car will enable him to bring Joy Cafe to the local markets, giving people who can’t come to the cafe a chance to enjoy the same delicious products on the go.

But here’s the thing: none of this happens without the community’s support. The cafe is a reflection of all the connections my dad has made over the years—the friendships, the smiles, the shared memories.

And now, we’re asking for that same community to help us take the next step.

When you donate, you’re not just supporting a business—you’re supporting a place that’s been a part of many people’s lives. Whether it’s the early morning regulars who come for their coffee before work, the families who gather for lunch during the weekends, or the friends who meet up to catch up over a galette, Joy Cafe has become a cornerstone of Wokingham.

This is a chance to keep that spirit alive and growing. Your support will not only help my dad achieve his vision but also help ensure that Joy Cafe continues to be a place of warmth, connection, and joy for years to come.

Every donation is a step toward making this dream a reality. Whether it's £10 or £100, every bit counts. Thank you for believing in my dad, his business, and the community that makes it all possible. With your help, we can take Joy Cafe to the next level and keep the joy flowing for everyone.
