Formerly known as Taco Chon Mexican Grill, Don Chon is a family-owned restaurant in Burnsville, MN, owned by Juan Ramos. Juan Ramos, owner of Taco Chon, had a dream of opening a taco restaurant in the United States. The restaurant is inspired by his family’s restaurant in Mexico, also called “Taco Chon”, named after his father. Juan opened his first Taco Chon restaurant in Burnsville, MN in 2019, establishing a second restaurant in St. Cloud, MN in 2021. On April 26, 2022, Taco John’s filed a lawsuit against Taco Chon, claiming trademark infringement. The lawsuit alleged that the name Taco Chon was too similar to Taco John, and was likely to cause confusion with their brand (they only sound similar if you don’t know how to pronounce the Spanish alphabet). In early 2024, Taco Chon and Juan settled in court, and Juan renamed his restaurants to Don Chon Mexican Grill.

The building in Burnsville, which houses the restaurant, is under new ownership. Unfortunately, Juan has gotten behind in his rent payments to the new owner, and he is facing a hearing for eviction on April 3, 2025. I would like this GoFundMe to raise enough money to cover his back rent, so that Juan can continue living his dream. It would be even better if we could raise enough money so that Juan could buy/build a new building, and get away from the need to rent space. Please help Juan keep his original restaurant and continue serving great Mexican food to the community.
