Help Judea, Exotic & Aquatics Assault Victim

This GoFundMe has been created to help fund proper legal representation for Judea, the victim of assault at Exotic & Aquatics in Roanoke, Virginia. She deserves JUSTICE.

She was physically assaulted for asking for a $20 refund by the store owner’s son, a 300 lb man, Daniel Joel Rosen.

Her case has already been taken to court and his assault charges were DISMISSED (by Judge McClain of Roanoke County Court). 

I believe if Judea has the right lawyer, she will get the justice she deserves and this man will no longer be allowed to take his anger out on innocent people, including small women and people of color.

Her full story is below:

“On June 28, 2021 I was physically assaulted by one of the owners of exotics & aquatics. Daniel Joel Rosen, who stands at least 6 feet and 300lbs, decided to put his hands on me after refusing to provide me a refund. I had a court hearing this morning at the Roanoke County district court, and they dismissed the assault and battery charges. I was not able to speak at this hearing, nor was any evidence shown. This was a one sided case and I was not heard. My public defender was Camille Harvey and the judge was Judge McClain of Roanoke County Court.

A little back story: on 6/26/2021 I bought feeder rats for my pet snakes. There is a policy that they have that states if you return a feeder rat within 24 hours, they will provide store credit. 2 of my snakes didn't eat, so I attempted to return 2 rats the next day. I was told by Daniel's mom, and one of the owners of the store, that she didn't know how to process refunds and I would need to come back when someone did was there. This is not the first time this has been said either, apparently no one but 2 of the managers know how to process refunds, and neither were there. The following day my boyfriend, Kieyshon, made a fb post calling them out (pictures posted below). He expressed that he would like for the store to get their shit together, not only for the animals, but for customers as well. It's an inconvenience as a customer to have to keep coming back day after day because the employees don't know how to do basic tasks related to the job. Exotics decided to ban Kiey by name because of this post. We were still owed money for the rats I returned, so I myself went to the store to get the refund. If he doesn't want my bf to be at the store, fine, but we are going to take our money elsewhere. Kieyshon stayed in the car while I went into the store since HE was banned, not me.

Below is the video of the encounter. I initially was talking to the store manager, Tabitha, who was going to go ahead and give me my refund so I could leave. Daniel decides to come from the back of the store, and start yelling at me. He didn't even know what was happening, he just got upset for whatever reason and decided to get physical. All I wanted was my $20 so I could leave and not return to that sad store. Daniel literally picked me up off the ground, so hard that I had bruises on my arms. He LITERALLY threw me out the doors, so hard I hit my head and ended up with a concussion. While on the ground, he then proceeded to kick me. I also suffered bruising and lacerations on my elbows.

This happened at Exotics & Aquatics on Williamson Rd in Roanoke VA. I was a customer for almost 2 years when this happened. This man clearly has anger issues and shouldn't be allowed to work with the public. I am a 4'11 115lb female, this man 3x my size had ABSOLUTELY no right or reason to put his hands on me. As you see in the video, his employees were struggling to hold him back and telling him to calm down. This has to have happened to others, and I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS. Everyone needs to know what kind of business this is and what kind of people run it. Roanoke County courts failed me. I was not able to speak in court, nor was I able to provide any evidence showing exactly what happened. He and his attorney lied and tried to make it seem like I came into the store looking for issues. He stated I was erratic, and put my hands on them first. But that's clearly not true, as you can see. No justice was served. I want everyone to see what kind of person this is. He clearly has anger issues and needs help, not continue to run a business.

And for some reason some seem to believe I was charged with something, that's false just like the lies they spew. It's public record. I was never charged with anything because I was not in the wrong. Daniel was charged with assault and battery, look it up if you don't believe me.”
