Hello all!
From a young age, I’ve always looked up at the sky with wonder. This curiosity about what lies beyond our planet inspired me to learn everything I could about space. Devouring every space-related book I could find, I developed a lifelong passion for exploration, innovation, and learning. These passions have driven me through my soon-to-be-completed Bachelor of Engineering degree at McMaster University.

As a devoted space enthusiast, I’ve sought every opportunity to connect with the Canadian space industry. Joining McMaster University’s high-power rocketry team was a pivotal decision in my journey. Over the past four and a half years, this team has taught me invaluable skills, introduced me to lifelong friends, and solidified my dream of working in the space sector.

In 2023, I was incredibly honored to be selected as a Zenith Fellow Intern through the Zenith Canada Pathways initiative. This prestigious fellowship introduced me to Canada’s vibrant space community and enabled me to complete a 16-month internship at Xiphos Systems Corporation. During this time, I gained invaluable industry experience, made connections with inspiring mentors and peers, and truly launched my career in the space industry.

My enthusiasm for Zenith didn’t end with my internship. This past year, I volunteered to help organize the annual summit for the 2024 Zenith fellows and even had the incredible opportunity to represent Zenith by hosting a panel at the Canadian Space Agency.

Beyond space, I’m also deeply passionate about the environment and love spending time outdoors. Whether it’s hiking in the backcountry or exploring new trails, nature continually reminds me of our planet’s beauty and fragility. I dream of combining my love for space and the environment by working on missions that preserve and protect Earth for future generations.

Now, I have an incredible opportunity to take the next big step toward my dream. I’ve been accepted into the International Space University’s Space Studies Program—a prestigious 9-week summer course that brings together participants from around the world to learn, collaborate, and network. This program, held in Seoul, South Korea this June, will help me develop interdisciplinary skills, connect with global space leaders, and grow both personally and professionally.

I’m deeply grateful to the European Space Agency for awarding me a €10,000 scholarship to attend. However, the total program tuition is €20,000, leaving me to cover the remaining €10,000 out of pocket. Additionally, round-trip flights to South Korea cost approximately $3,000 CAD.
To help with these expenses, I’m setting up this GoFundMe with the goal of raising $3,000 CAD for flights and $15,000 CAD for tuition (curse those exchange rates!).
I know this is a HUGE ask, but any contribution—no matter how small—would mean the world to me. Even just sharing this campaign would be incredibly helpful in making my dream a reality.
During the program, I promise to document and share my journey with all of you! As an alumna, I plan to give back to the space industry and inspire other young Canadians to chase their dreams too.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
Julia :)
