Help Julia Break Barriers with Her Thesis Film
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Julia Doogan, and I'm a 23-year-old film student living in Los Angeles, California.
As I prepare to graduate college at the end of this year, I am currently undergoing preproduction for my thesis film. Every film student knows how important this project is, as it's usually the final project of our college careers. Although I direct and create films often, this is also the case for myself.
Making movies is typically very expensive, especially for young college students. I work full-time hours while also attending school as a full-time student, and I'm nowhere near to covering the costs of production on my own. We need funding to feed and take care of our cast and crew properly, and to create the most visually articulate project possible.
I wrote this script as a high school student, dreaming that one day it would become a reality. It is a comedic take on a classic Greek Tragedy. A bright young woman, Antigone, is determined to bury her deceased brother, despite the pushback from the King. This story was originally written by the Greek Tragedian Sophocles in 441 BC and represents the strength of family, the importance to the right of personal beliefs, and can be interpreted as a feminist tale. Not only is it an important historical tale which has survived generations, but it presents a lot of comedic opportunity as well.
Other students at my college quickly took notice to my hard work, dedication, and knack for storytelling. I've already gained the trust of dozens of crew members ready to get to work. All we need is a little bit of help to get started. All of my department heads for this project also happen to be talented young women (including women of color), breaking down decades long barriers that feminine-presenting people have faced in the entertainment industry, both in schools and beyond.
Shares are just as important as donations, so if you're on social media, please do us a favor and spread the word! Additionally, all donors will be listed as official producers in the film's credits!
I cannot thank you enough for the support. This project could potentially be the catalyst for our professional careers, and we're as confident as ever, as long as we have your help.
Sincerely,
Julia Doogan
