Help Julia train to Pro

Julia Ionescu (rising young tennis star and proud Edmontonian) is an inspiration to all ages. Not only is she ranked #1 in Alberta Tennis in her age category, but she is also a kind, hard-working honours student with a passion for social issues and a love of family.

Now, she’s been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with world-class elite tennis professionals in Florida.

Julia’s father, Silviu, is our colleague at work, which means we’ve been lucky to follow Julia’s tennis career for several years. We knew that Julia’s talent and dedication to the sport she loves would serve her well in her pursuits. So, we were not surprised when Silviu told us that his daughter had been assessed for talent and offered a spot at Florida's prestigious, world-class tennis training centre. However, we immediately thought of the challenges their family would need to overcome to follow through with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Julia. We knew we wanted to find a way to support their family.

While we are inspired by Julia’s passion and positivity in everything she does, we’re also incredibly inspired by her family’s unwavering dedication to supporting their daughter’s dream. Julia and her mother, Gabriela, have started the complex process of packing up their lives in Edmonton to move to Florida for a year. Julia’s parents agreed that Gabriela would leave her job in Edmonton to be with and support Julia during her training in Florida. At the same time, Silviu would remain in Edmonton, working hard to support the family financially.

There are significant expenses involved with this incredible opportunity, including, but not limited to:

• Elite training fees and coaching for Julia.

• Travel expenses for tennis competitions.

• Tennis gear and equipment.

• Rent and living expenses for Julia and Gabriela in Florida.

The world needs more positive and hopeful stories, such as Julia’s. We want to see hard work and dedication to one’s dreams and family be rewarded. We knew that the Ionescu family would work hard to make this exciting opportunity happen without asking for help or complaining, so we decided to set up this Go Fund Me page on their behalf.
