Help Julie Shivnen Battle Multiple Myeloma
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Olivia Krog and I’m asking for fundraising for my mother, Julie, who was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This is a type of blood cancer that damages bones and can cause other health issues because it’s effects on the blood. It’s developed when a abnormal plasma cells grow out of control.
This makes Julie very fragile. She currently has multiple broken ribs and a fractured spine. Fortunately, the hospital was able to cement the fractures in her spine, which is helping her feel more comfortable while she struggles to move around with the broken ribs.
Julie missed several weeks of work, since first discovering broken ribs back in February, before we knew about the diagnose.
Her apartment lease expires in April and we’re trying to figure out living arrangements for her. She would love to live in her own apartment where medical help and family can come and go. This way she’ll be able to live a normal life with privacy while battling the cancer.
Donations will help with living expenses, medical bills, treatments, transportation, etc.
Please consider donating to help our mother. Cancer is a tragedy and is deeply hurting our family. If you have any ideas on how to support her, please reach out to me.
Prayers requested for healing, peace and strength to get through this.
Hope is not lost ❤️
Update:
When Julie was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, it was expected that she was already in an advanced stage of the cancer. Our fear was realized last week after a biopsy confirmed she's in stage three. There is no known cure for this terminal condition.
Currently, Julie is going through chemo treatments for the next six months. Last week she started a new, more aggressive regimen that will last 21 days. With the help of these treatments, she will go into remission. We're told this usually works well and has helped many others with the same blood cancer.
Recent x-rays confirmed she has a total of eight broken ribs. Julie needs daily help around the apartment with cleaning, laundry, meals, etc. She can't lift anything over five pounds; fatigue comes on quickly and she has a difficult time walking; she's unable to bend down to get things from the refrigerator and other lower areas. Although, some days feel great and she can move more freely. She's going through a lot of pain physically and emotionally. Though, her spirit still shines bright!
The family & I desire to help her live a little more normal life. The lease on the apartment has expired and she's now renting month-to-month in the same apartment. She hopes to stay there for as long as she can. Any financial support will make it easier for her focus on healing, and reduce the stress and worry of bills. She had been off work for several weeks prior to being diagnosed. She believed her back pain was from an injury on the job. Sadly, her back pain was diagnosed as multiple myeloma in late March 2022.
Please pray that the treatments work to slow down the progression of this blood cancer. That she has a chance for more time, less pain & suffering from the condition & treatment side effects during this fight for her life.
