HELP JULIE’S SPINE SURGERY

First of all, I would like to say Thank you for the time to click this link and read the story below. I'm Ema and I'm helping my friend fundraise for spine surgery.

Let me introduce my friend Julie (Jong Yu Lie),

She used to be a pastry chef for more than 15 years, she created a beautiful cake (Whistlercake) and also used to work on rocky mountaineer train for the past 3 years. She is very passionate and loves her job.

She is fun, easygoing, happy and active. She loves snowboarding in the winter, surfing and longboarding in the summer. Sadly now she can't do anything feeling desperate, useless and hopeless.

Unfortunately, in 2021, she had a snowboarding accident. That accident causes her bad injury and concussion. She went to the emergency in right after and the doctor only give her pain killer and asked her to go to Physiotherapy.

After a few months, the pain never goes away, She went back to the hospital and they don’t do much for her. all they can do is give her more medicine and a stronger pain killer.

They don’t do MRI also don’t do any X-ray up to this point. They believe it was just the muscle and they suggest to kept continue physiotherapy.

She did everything she could to ease the pain from acupuncture, chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage, dry needle and PRP injection, all herbal alternatives that cost thousands of dollars.

The worst part is she did not have a family doctor (currently on the waiting list for 1.5 years) and no luck till now.

She went back to the neurologist and begged for MRI since the beginning they kept saying not need MRI.

She knew this is not a muscle problem, but her pain getting worst every day.

She could not stand or walk for more than 10 minutes. Her right hand is very tremor and can’t work anymore.

Finally, her neurologist refer her for MRI and the result was that she need surgery to open up the spine behind her neck that compress the root nerves causing nerve damage.

The neurologist said she have to wait for the nerve surgeon to contact her, Meanwhile, she had been waiting for 6 months for a nerve surgeon.

Her neurologist refuse to send her to the Vancouver pain centre because she said only a family doctor can do it.

Here in Canada, the medical system is very complicated and backlogged for so long.

She has been waiting 6 months for the nerve surgeon to contact her but still nothing up yet till now.

Her pain getting worse and if it’s no surgery as soon as possible, she will be paralyzed.

As they said nerve/spine surgeons have a long wait and can take 1-2 years for surgery.

But she never gives up, even though she is in pain she still tries to work for a couple of hours/per day from door-dashing to save money for her surgery.

I’m sharing and writing this story to help Julie”s surgery that she is planning to do in Malacca, Malaysia. She wants to be close to her family as she is originally from Bali, Indonesia. The surgery will cost her roughly $30,000 considered will be cheaper compared to Canada, US or Singapore.
