Help June's Recovery

My sister, June Mays, had a severe stroke on November 19.  She spent several days in the hospital and is now in Marianna Health and Rehab working very hard with physical and occupational therapists.  Her progress is slow but she has tremendous motivation and is surrounded by love and prayer.  She has minimal movement in her left leg and some sensation but no movement in her left arm and hand. 

There is a promising treatment that is newly available in Marianna, Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment.  HBO is often used to aid in wound healing but it may also improve recovery from strokes.  We want to give June every opportunity to regain as much functioning as possible. 

Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by Medicare for strokes.  The out-of-pocket cost per treatment is $662.  We anticipate 10 treatments to make a difference in June's recovery and hope to start next week.

Another challenge is that at age 70, June was still working as an RN, after teaching A&P at Chipola College for many years.  She was working in order to make changes to her living arrangements to make them handicap accessible for her husband, Larry, who also had a stroke a year ago.  Now they will both need the handicap accessiblity and might require sitters to help them at home once she is discharged from rehab.

It's against our family's nature to ask for help. We'd much rather give than receive.   But so many friends have asked how they might could help, and this is a tangible way to do so if you would like.  Thank you so much for your prayers.
