Hello everyone! I’m moving to Sweden! Traveling, languages, and new cultures have been my passion for as long as I can remember. I started the journey of seeing those dreams come true back in 2006 when I did a study abroad program in France. It was the best time of my life and cemented my desire to see and experience more of the world. Unfortunately, it was cut short by cancer, and I lost myself in the process of losing my dream.
Over many years, I tried many different paths in repeated attempts to get back on my feet. As these paths one-by-one did not work out, I fell into a deep depression. I believe these repeated failures were largely due to depression and not believing in myself.
Now, after years of working on myself and learning to fail forward, I have reached a point where I am ready to stand on my own two feet and take control of my future.
I have been living on my own and working hard to support myself for a while now, and alongside this I have been saving money whenever and wherever I can. My goal for my future is to move to Sweden where I will have the opportunity to study abroad again.
Why Sweden? Well, as some of you may already know, my sister Aubree has been living in Sweden the past eight years. I’ve learned a lot about the country through her. Moving there will not only give me a chance to be close to her, but to also begin studying abroad again and pursue the career that was cut short back in 2006. With her help, my hard work, and your support, I will have an amazing opportunity to jumpstart my life.
In short, I have the opportunity to return to school and support myself all while being near family and doing the traveling that I love.
I’m asking for $7,500, and I plan to save $7,500 on my own as well. This is because I want to give myself the best possible chance and start strong. With Aubree’s help, I am already working on finding a job in Sweden and I will be taking Swedish language lessons while I’m there so that I will have the ability to go back to school as soon as possible. To give you a better idea of why I am saving for this amount, here is an itemized list of some of the living costs I can expect for the first month.
•Work Permit Visa: $215.00
•Plane Ticket: $580.00- $1300.00
•Shipping Costs: $300.00
•Rent (Could be one or two months' rent up front): $600-1600
•Groceries: $350
•Furnishing and necessities for new apartment: $3500
•Travel Costs/emergencies: $500
•Clothing (I will need to buy clothing for the totally different weather when I get there!): $800
•Passport Renewal: $130
Everything that is left after these expenses will be for unexpected and last-minute costs. Based on life experience and Aubree’s recommendations, having a large buffer is a good idea for moving to an entirely new country.
Thank you for taking your time to read this, and an even bigger thank you for helping me to achieve my dreams! Your love and support mean the world to me!
