Help Justin recover from hate crime beating
Justin Wicker needs our help.
Justin was chased and severely beaten on early Friday morning July 9, 2021 in a horrible assault. He suffered a major head injury, underwent brain surgery, and is now in ICU at a local trauma hospital.
He is stable and responsive and the prognosis for his recovery is cautiously optimistic. But the road ahead is clearly going to be a long and emotionally difficult one.
Justin Wicker lives in Palm Springs and is a member of GMCLA (Gay Men's Choir of Los Angeles) as well as Modern Men In Palm Springs. He trained for the AIDS Lifecycle 2020 and has volunteered for numerous LGBT causes for years. An activist and animal lover, Justin is a friend, son, brother and has been in a committed relationship for the last three years. Zany, witty, generous, funny, sweet, and loyal, Justin is completely undeserving of this act of violence (as is anyone).
We are trying to help with the costs of hospitalization as Justin is without work and thus, without health insurance. Our goal is lofty but realistic given the current costs of medical care and a projected hospital stay of at least two weeks plus many many months of rehab and extensive therapy. Any and all help is welcome and greatly appreciated, and any help getting the word out about Justin's cause is also greatly appreciated.
Justin and I have been friends since we worked together many years ago at GSN. Justin's sister Shelly, his mom Karen and I are working together to determine if any bill's need to be paid while Justin is incapacitated and will pay them with the funds from this GoFundMe. His mom will be managing the monies from this account . The money will be used to pay his hospital bills, rehab expenses, mortgage and any other bills he is unable to pay while recovering.
Thank you
