Help K & J Find a Safe Home Before Winter
Donation protected
Help K & J stop living in their car and get back on their feet before winter. Because of harsh Chicago winters, we need to help K & J as quickly as we can.
Since September 7th, K & J have been sleeping in their car due to a wrongful eviction from their apartment and close-knit community of 8 years. K & J are both black tradesmen who have found it difficult to find steady income and union work, putting them behind on bills.
K & J were given 35 days, rather than the legal 120 days, to completely vacate their home. Because they had to pack on such short notice, many of their tools, furniture, and personal belongings were left, causing massive financial and personal loss.
Sleeping in their car has taken a toll on their mental and physical wellbeing. They are unable to lay flat down, unable to cook food, and unable to fully rest. Both of them have continued to work full time while living out of their car.
K is a 51 year old woman in trade, college educated, and family oriented. J is a 41 year old college educated, trained electrician and martial arts instructor. “Every one is a paycheck away from where we are now, and we just want to go home."
Both were born and raised in Chicago, and want to build, grow, and create a home in their home city.
They are seeking funds for immediate and long term needs.
Short term goals are:
- Phone bill paid in order to receive and make work opportunities as well as connection to family and friends
- Gas for the car
- Ice and hot water so they can safely eat
- Funds for public bathrooms
- Short hotel stays to shower and safely sleep
Long term goals:
- First two months of rent + security deposit
- Utilities: Gas, Phone, Internet
- A safety net to recover their lost tools, furniture, and damages to the car
“We need to rebuild, so all help is good help.”
Please share, donate, and help bring K & J home.
