Kaitlyn Scott’s Celebration of Life & Memorial

Hi, we are the Mckay’s and Kaitlyn Scott is our step daughter and she was one of our junior bridesmaids at our wedding on October 1, 2022. Tanya Barclay is Kaitlyn’s mom and is facing the unimaginable, parent’s worst nightmare having her only child being hospitalized in ICU on life support in Vancouver, BC while she is residing and working in Calgary , AB. Katie has been having seizures since early December, she has been previously hospitalized and waiting on an EEG to try and determine what is causing the seizures. She was released from the hospital in Vancouver with meds to keep everything stable while they wait for an EEG appointment however unfortunately Katie suffered a devastating seizure and had a heart attack over the weekend and took paramedics over 8 min to restart her heart. She is currently at Lions Gate hospital on life support. Tanya and immediate family have rushed down to Vancouver to be with her daughter during this difficult time however we know finances are very tight, as it is for a lot of people right now and as you can imagine we want finances to be one less thing Tanya and family have to worry about at the moment. We as a community want to pull together and help, any contribution made will be received with the utmost heartfelt thanks, even if it is “just your morning coffee” every little bit helps and would go so far in offering Tanya and family some comfort. Money donated will go straight to Tanya to offset and help with any costs for Tanya to be away from home, missing work and to be with her daughter and to bring her daughter back home to Alberta. We as a community and chosen family stand behind her and pray and are doing all we can to try and help too, however at this time we are calling on the Villages help as well as this one is beyond our means and we need the reinforcements of the whole community and village to help ease the burden on just one small group of friends. Tanya and Katie are two beautiful souls and we are certainly very devastated about this news and just want to be able to focus on being there for them and not let finances stand in the way. Update January 18th, 2024 ( this update is Tanya’s words that was sent to us to share with all of you:

Katie is still on life support , but with the brain damage she will never be able to survive.. she is off pain meds now but because of the brain damage I've been assured she isn't feeling anything (I even tried to tickle her feet) .. the doctors keep sending her for tests to make sure she will be a good candidate for organ donation as Todd and me feel she would want her passing to mean something and help someone else ... providing she doesn't just go naturally on Saturday she will be taken off life support and go to surgery I so appreciate the love and seeing how many people also love my girl anything that we are so grateful to raise is going to help so much with placing her ashes and taking her to her favorite place she always wanted to go back to which is seaschelt or Robert's creek I guess .. she would want to be there , or a little piece of her anyways it'll all go towards her and remembering her.. just thank you.

I talked to the hospital just now , they ran tests and she is now classified as brain dead so today is the day , she’s gone now I just can’t.

With the most broken and shattered hearts we share with you all that Katie has gained her angel wings. Tanya’s world is shattered as you can imagine. As you may have read above from Tanya’s update, that Katies parents made the decision to let Katie’s memory live on through her death and gave the gift of life through organ donation. I pray that gift brings miracles to others and they continue to feel the love that Katie left behind. The Go Fund me is now a Celebration of life fund, any monies collected will go directly to Tanya so that she and family will be able to fulfill their hopes of honoring Katie as best as possible. Thank you all again for your continued support and show of love, it has not gone unnoticed.

We wanted to share that Katie’s legacy of organ donation has gone on to give the hope and another chance to 6 people. We want to continue to support the family during this time as we want them to be able to focus on the final arrangements and not have to worry about finances. Please continue to share , pray and support. Together we will be stronger and will be able offer the family the comfort and support greatly needed. Bless everyone who has helped in any way , we truly can’t thank everyone enough . Bless
