“Every dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” - Unknown
30 days! That is the number of days left for Kakooza to start his Bachelor’s in Global Challenges at the African Leadership University. When he was 3 years old, Kakooza lost his father to a heart attack, a condition that he still thinks could have been avoided if his father had received the proper and timely medication to save his life. In reflecting on his father’s situation, Kakooza decided to turn his experiences into forms of change: Kakooza wanted to ensure that no one ever meets a similar fate as his father nor that no children are orphaned again at an early age due to a heart attack.
In order to realize his mission, in 2017 Kakooza teamed up with his colleague based in Italy and with Peace First: a youth-led non-profit based in America that funds social change projects. Collectively they worked to actualize Kakooza’s vision and founded “Aid You”, a community-based initiative that works to democratize heart health information and trained basic life support skills (first aid) for life-threatening situations. Through Aid You, over 1500 students in Uganda received accessibility to heart health information and were able to participate in basic life support training. In 2021, Kakooza received the Diana Award, an accolade in the name of Princess Diana for his notable work towards making the world a better place.
According to the World Health Organisation, heart-related conditions in the US alone account for 6 deaths per minute and annually over 17.3 million deaths worldwide. This calls for urgent action especially from young changemakers like Kakooza to come up with innovative solutions to curb these death tolls. This explains why Kakooza enrolled at the African Leadership University for a Bachelors in Global Challenges with a mission to leverage the power of technology and community to increase accessibility to quality and affordable health care services in low-income communities.
Unfortunately, due to his family’s financial predicament, he will not be able to meet the other half of the cost to attend school at the African Leadership University. Kakooza needs your help.
Kakooza currently needs $17,000 to cover his entire education cost for 3 years. He has so far raised $2,000 through donations from friends and personal savings from part-timing as a volunteer to a local NGO. He is currently out of options and he needs our support.
I greatly believe in Kakooza’s mission, and I believe you will accept my invitation to make his mission come true.
