We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our dear friend and brother, Firefighter III Kaleo Ing, who was not only a gifted firefighter but also a cherished member of our community. A master craftsman, both in the workshop and at the firehouse, he dedicated his life to serving others. He taught countless firefighters with patience, passion, and an unwavering focus on ensuring they developed the skills they need so that they would keep safe and go home to their families. He was an avid learner, striving to understand, experiment with, and forge new, more efficient ways of accomplishing tasks. His ability to simplify and teach complex firefighting skills made him an invaluable instructor and mentor. His undying loyalty made him a steadfast friend.

Kaleo was a devoted husband and father, who worked tirelessly to provide for his loving wife, Claire, and their two young children. As a father, whether it was building the kids their own playground or being their human play structure, he delighted in bringing smiles to their faces. As a husband, he was fiercely committed and constantly strove to support his wife (and bake her the best vegan chocolate cakes on island). It is an extremely difficult time for all of us and we express our deepest aloha to his family.

In this time of unimaginable loss, we are coming together to offer them the support they need to navigate the future. Funds raised will help cover daily living expenses and funeral costs, and contribute to the well-being and education of their children.

He found joy in taking raw materials and creating something beautiful from it. When it came to woodworking, he would start with a standing tree, fell it, limb it, plane it, then craft it. His unique ability to bring out the natural beauty in the wood he worked with, crafting simple yet elegant furniture and art reflected his skill and his passion.

As a brother in the fire service, he was always there when you needed him most, bringing light and guidance to every situation. As we grieve the loss of our brother, remember, we are all family, and it is more important now than ever to lean on one another.
