Help Kali Boman Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Noel Priley, a friend and former co-worker of Kali’s for many years. For those of you who know Kali, you understand how kindhearted of a person she is. She always puts everyone else’s needs above hers and goes out of her way to make people feel special whenever she can. Whether with her residents, co-workers, friends, or family, she’s always going above and beyond. For example, while working together, she and I went to her sister’s house in Two Harbors between our 16-hour shifts so Kali could play Easter Bunny. We assembled the baskets in the work parking lot, then hid Easter eggs and baskets for her nieces and nephews to surprise them when they woke up on Easter Sunday. That’s just one of the many times she sacrificed her time and sleep to create a memory those kids will never forget and be able to smile about.

Now it’s time for the rest of us to step up to the plate and return the many favors and acts of kindness Kali has shown us all.

Regrettably, Kali was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma this summer. It started in May 2022 when Kali made an appointment with her primary care physician regarding a lump she found in her neck. After having an ultrasound, they told her they had found 2 abnormally large masses in her neck, one directly behind the other. Shortly after that, they performed a biopsy. And in July, they confirmed positive results for cancer cells in the lymph nodes in her neck. Later, at the beginning of August, Kali had a PET scan and an MRI focused on her head and neck. Unfortunately, the results couldn't confirm where the cancer had originated. And at this time, she is still waiting, hoping they can establish where her cancer originated.

Given the unknown, her care team decided surgery wasn’t the correct approach. And on September 20, 2022, Kali started the treatment journey. She will undergo a total of 7 weeks of radiation therapy, 5 days a week, in addition to chemotherapy, with the drug Cisplatin, every Tuesday for 6 weeks. Unfortunately, the effects of the radiation will be felt within the first couple of weeks and are said to last 6-8 months following treatments and have a likely chance to cause life-long side effects.

Kali is such a vibrant person who is so full of energy and adventure. She’s always the friend that’s first to say “I’ll be there” no matter the occasion. She’s primarily known for picking you up for brunch and making sure you make it home a looong while later after a fun-filled eventful day… She is also the first to be at your side in any time of need. And those that know her closely know she is also a workaholic! But unfortunately, her care team doesn’t believe she will be able to continue to work during her treatments due to side effects and repeat appointments.

We need to rally together and raise as much as we can for Kali, so we can help to ease the financial burden we know she is going to face soon. Insurance won’t come close to covering the cost of visits, treatments, or prescriptions, not to mention lost wages. So, we are asking for your help. Please consider donating to this selfless, caring woman to help her while navigating this cancer journey.

There will also be a benefit for Kali with lunch, raffles, and a silent auction.
