Help Kam Find Peace After A Heartbreaking Loss

Dear family, friends and to all of you who may or may not know Kam.
My name is Elizabeth and Kam is someone very dear to me. I’ve taken it upon myself to create this gofund me page for Kam as her mother Deborah Hall has passed away on Friday, September 27th. This is a devastating time for Kam. As anyone who has experienced loss knows, the emotional toll is immense, and unfortunately, Kam is also facing unexpected financial challenges during this difficult time.
Kam’s mother’s life insurance policy recently lapsed and no payment will be paid out, leaving Kam unprepared for the high costs of expenses and other arrangements. The financial strain has added a tremendous burden on top of their grief, and we want to come together to help ease their worries during this time of sorrow.
Anybody who knows Kam, knows that she is a very reserved, private and giving person. She is very independent and used to doing everything on her own for herself, Mom and her four nephews that she is raising. So, please understand that it is hard for her to give me the consent to put her personal business out there today and to finally ask for help.
This last year Kam has silently been caring for her mother who was battling stage IV uterine cancer.
It all started July 2023, with Deborah complaining of major pain saying she had to go to the emergency room. Upon arriving at the ER, she was told she had severe constipation. She was treated and later discharged. That summer led to several visits to the ER and then later being told she had several fibroids. Fast forward to October 2023 where she was then told that they see a mass that they’re concerned about and she needed a biopsy. On November 9, 2023, Kam and her mother received the news that she had stage IV gynecological cancer and that it had spread into her lymph nodes. She was told she had to start chemo immediately and that she was not a candidate for surgery. By that point the damage had already been done. In that moment, Kam’s and her mothers’ entire lives had changed forever.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there. On January 18h, 2024, Deborah was informed that her kidneys were beginning to become damaged and in order to save them she needed to have a procedure done where they will put nephrostomy tubes through her kidneys in order to drain all the urine daily. The sounds of Deborah yells during this procedure are something Kam will never forget. These tubes caused several visits to the ER as they will become clogged. These tubes also needed to be changed every 3 months causing Deborah to experience the agony over and over. After four months of treatment, it was time for Deborah to go have a PET scan to see the progress of the treatment. After a long four weeks, Kam and Deborah received the unfortunate news in June 2024, that the treatment didn’t work and the cancer instead grew. This disease had already taken so much away from Deborah and Kam! The doctors then offered another form of Chemotherapy, in which Ms. Deborah started but was only able to complete two treatments before her hospitalization in August 2024. In August, doctors informed Kam that her mother will not be able to continue treatment as she wasn’t strong enough to handle the chemotherapy and gave her the heartbreaking news that her mother had an estimate of 6 months to live. On August 21st the doctors informed Kam the only options she had was to do hospice care at home or at a facility. Kam immediately refused the idea of putting her mother in a facility and knew she wanted her home. On September 11th, Ms. Deborah was discharged from the hospital and transported to her home. Her living room was transformed to a hospice living condition. Kam, slept on a reclining chair right next to her mother from the moment she arrived home.
On the morning of September 20th before leaving to work Kam told her mother “Ma, I love you see you later” her mom responded “I love you.” What Kam didn’t know was that was the last time she would hear those words. When she arrived home that evening Kam was informed that her mom didn’t speak all day and just made moaning sounds. Kam will just tell me “I just want to hear her voice; I want her to respond to me”. Moving forward to September 27 Kam was updated that the hospice nurse said her mom has an estimate of 1 month left. With that saddening news, she knew she had to rush home not knowing that she in fact only had a few hours left. Upon arriving home, she was able to say hello to her mom, give her a kiss, wipe her mouth clean and witness her mom take her last breath.
Ms. Deborah’s diagnosis didn’t stop Kam from working two jobs full time, care for her four nephews and care for her mother. Since her mom was diagnosed 9 months ago Kam attended doctor appointments, biopsies, chemotherapy treatments, long hospital stays and so much more. Over time it has put a major financial, emotional, mental and physical toll on Kam.
Kam, will show up to work and service children and families with a smile as if her world wasn’t shattering. Kam only allowed very few people to know what was happening in her life. She has kept this a secret for as long as she could, which was until September 27th when her mother took her last breath when Kam arrived home from work.
Kam has never been good at accepting or asking for help but I believe that she deserves all the help she can get. Not only is Kam always showing up for everyone, she always gives even when she doesn’t have it in her to give. We know that Kam is always there to lend a helping hand or a kind word whenever someone is in need. Now, it’s our turn to support them as they navigate through this unimaginable loss.
To know the dynamics of the relationship Kam and her mother had you will understand why it is important for Kam to give her mother the going home service and celebration she deserves. Kam and her mother did everything together, that was Kam’s one and only BEST FRIEND!
I understand we all go through hard times so anything helps. Whether it be your love & support, a donation, sharing her story, or sending love, prayers, positive & healing vibes. All is accepted and very much appreciated.
Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support.
FOR ANYONE’S CONCERN, ALL THE FUNDS THAT ARE RAISED WILL GO TO THE FUNERAL COST IN BROOKLYN, TRANSPORTING HER MOTHER TO THE SOUTH, THE FUNERAL COST IN THE SOUTH, THE REPASS IN BROOKLYN AND IF THERE'S ADDITIONAL FUNDS IT WILL ASSIST KAM WITH SOME BILLS THAT HAVE ACCUMULATED.
