Help Kamau Marcharia during his treatment
Since I wrote this a couple of days ago we found out Kamau needs a new septic tank and his washer and dryer are beyond repair. And he owes $5500 on a loan he recently took out to repair his roof and about $3500 to pay off his ccar. And since I've spent a week as his driver and cook, I'm realizing how much hiring people for the 50 mile round trip to doctors' visits or a grocery run costs when a volunteer isn't available. So, I'm raising our goal to $20,000. Many of you know Kamau Marcharia's story. Our organizer friend who also served for many years as a County Commissioner in Fairfield County is now under-going treatment for multiple myeloma and needs our help. I'm spending some time with him this week trying to help out a bit with his care and see what he needs. Over the past few years he's lived on a pretty tight income and hasn't been able to keep up his aging country farmhouse. Today we got some basic repairs done by a plumber but he needs part of the kitchen floor braced and replaced and some other major repairs to his laundry room and bathroom. He recently had to put on a new roof and had to take out a loan to pay for that. We got estimates today to get the basic work done - $1200 for the kitchen and another $5000 for the laundry room and bathroom and probably another thousand to replace aging vinyl in the kitchen, laundry space and bathroom. If you can space a little cash to help him have a more comfortable and functional place to live while he's home and sometimes bed bound while he undergoes his treatment and recovery, he would deeply appreciate it. Thank you, Cathy Howell
