Help Kambria Retain Custody and Escape Abuse

Hello!

My name is Mollie Miller and I am starting this GoFundMe to crowd-fund legal aid for my very dear friend Kambria. If you know Kambria, then you don't need me to tell you how amazing she is. She has an incredibly loving and adventurous spirit, an infectious laugh, she strives to always learn about herself and others, and grow mindfully and spiritually. She became a mother in August 2023 and that has become her sole purpose in life. To love her son and watch him grow and develop. To see her with her son is to see unconditional love and care.

Unfortunately, after choosing to leave an oppressive relationship and try to gain her freedom and her motherhood, she is in a seemingly relentless legal battle with her ex who has committed to taking her child away from her no matter how much it takes. More details to come, but she needs our help NOW. We have tapped into many local resources such as NEWS, Monarch Justice Center, and Bay Area Legal Aid (Which, at this time, does NOT have a Family Law Attorney). None of these resources have turned into true financial relief. She is pregnant and the sole-caretaker for her 1-year-old son. She doesn't have the capacity to work and earn money for herself and because of this drawn out issue with the father of her son (ongoing 3 months now), she is living on scarce financial resources. She has been forced to retain a private lawyer both in Napa, CA and in Woodbridge, VA due to her ex's insistence that their son be returned to his "home state". Although she is seeking asylum from abuse and she and her son are safe and supported here in CA, VA is claiming jurisdiction at this time due to the father's false claim that the child has lived primarily in VA in the six months leading up to his filing against her and he is making false allegations that Kambria has mental health issues and is an un-fit mother. All of which he has threatened to do to her if she were to ever leave him.

There is a temporary order looming that her CHILD WILL BE TAKEN FROM HER and returned to live with her abuser across the country, two weeks before she is due to deliver her second baby, unless some miracles happen between now and January 30th. Kam needs to have some stress relieved from her plate and the daunting retainers for her bi-coastal legal team is just a part of the stress she is under. We truly don't know at this point how long this will be played out.
