Help My Grandparents Rebuild After the Eaton Fire
Hello, my name is Kandice Horton-Gomez, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest times in my family’s life. The Eaton Fire has devastated so many in our community, including my grandparents, Katherine Ellis and Al Schoepke. Married for 40 years, they lost their Altadena home of 35 years—a place filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. With flames quickly approaching, they had only moments to grab medications and a few essentials before fleeing, leaving everything else behind.
My grandparents have always been pillars of our community. From volunteering with Friends in Deed to leading church food drives, they’ve shown up for others in countless ways. Even through recent health challenges, they’ve remained resilient and giving. Now, they need our help to rebuild their lives.
With the support of my friends Sarah Toutant, Beti Ogba, and Taylor Sherrell, we’ve organized this fundraiser to assist with needs that might not be fully covered by other sources of aid.
If you can give, no matter the amount, it would mean everything to my family. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this with others would also make a huge difference. Thank you for standing with us during this unimaginable time.
