Help Kara Fight Cancer During a Pandemic

Donation protected
If you've followed Kara's story in the last year, you know she is creative as hell (a children's book author, illustrator, belly dancer, and competitive air guitar finalist!). You also know she's a fighter.

Since May 2019, Kara has been battling stage 4 colorectal cancer. She's gone through three rounds of chemotherapy, a colostomy, radiation, and three surgeries for abscesses, yet through it all she's shared her story on her blog and socials, talked to other cancer patients who want to hear how she copes, grown her art business and even put on dance performances when her health allowed. She's shown you can live with cancer and still put something positive out in the world.

Kara was even starting to feel like working again when COVID-19 hit.

Besides having the physical job of massage therapist before her diagnosis, Kara has a condition that places her at higher risk of infection. And her husband--that's me, Charles Austin Muir--was a chiropractic assistant and personal trainer before losing his job shortly before the pandemic. That has made my job search a challenge, not only because of the risk of infection but also because I am Kara's part-time caregiver and I need a flexible schedule to stay close to her. And although Kara receives disability, I ran out of unemployment and extended benefits due to the fact that we were struggling even before Coronavirus. We are living on credit cards and what little is left of our savings.

The bottom line. Your funds will help us with groceries, bills, caring for our three rescue dogs and covering our mortgage while politicians argue about stimulus relief and I look for work that will let me support Kara in her fight against cancer. BASICALLY: We just want to keep Kara's treatments going and get through this pandemic. We lost our Obamacare (we don't make enough anymore) but qualified for Oregon Health Plan, so we're just trying to line up enough funds to get us through this period of soaring joblessness and infection risk. I probably should have started this GO FUND ME sooner. But it's never too late, and at any rate we're gonna try.

We know millions of people are struggling as we are, so we appreciate anything you can give. We WANT to give back. We want to put something positive--our art, our healing--out into the world.  This is just a setback. We will not give up. Don't give up, whatever you are going through.

You are appreciated,
Charles Austin Muir
