Help Kareem get his family from Gaza to safety
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Emma - and like many globally - I've been witnessing the horrors inflicted on Palestinian people in Gaza via social media.
What's been unfolding there these past few months is unbearable and so I've been doing all I can - rallying every week with TPAN (Tasmanian Palestinian Advocacy Network) and the local Palawa/Pakana people of Lutruwita, learning, and sharing content that tells the truth about the situation..
I created this fundraising campaign to help my beautiful friend Kareem raise the amount needed to get his family out of Gaza so they can stay in a safe place.
It's a privilege for me to be able to help Kareem and his family in this way - and I hope you'll join me in giving whatever you can. Rest assured that ALL money will be sent to Kareem and his family and we will post updates here.
Please read on for my friend's story.
Hello everyone,
I am kareem Abusamra from Palestine, Gaza. I am a photographer and I have lived in Istanbul for seven years. I am also a student with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. I left Gaza because of the instability there and because of the repeated wars there. It is my right as a human being to live a decent life..
During the years I spent, my family and I went through many wars, which destroyed the house in 2014 (pictured above), and now this war also destroyed my family’s house in 2023, and life has become impossible in Gaza. Every few years, we need to start from scratch. How much do we have left in this life to start from scratch every few years?
I will attach pictures of our house in 2014 when I was living with my family after the war.
I need your help to evacuate my family from Gaza
Hoping this finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. I come to you with a most urgent and time-sensitive appeal. My family is in Gaza, I have been unable to see them for long years. They are displaced in Gaza and under the constant and imminent threat of death, injury, and illness, even during this so-called “pause”. Their 3 collective homes have been bombed and are destroyed beyond repair. My family home and my two sisters' husband's homes. We have been under occupation for our entire lives, none of us have experienced anything like what is happening now.
There is a chance right now to get the whole family out of Gaza and into Egypt by the way of the Rafah Crossing. It is very uncertain how long we will have this opportunity for, making it critical to raise the necessary funds as quickly as possible. The longer it takes - the more in danger they are all in. No one knows how much longer the bombardment of Gaza will last and what the continued cost to human life will be. For my family’s future, your help is essential. I am deeply concerned about the entire family,
The funds you contribute will accomplish the following:
- Cover the expensive costs of safe passage into Egypt. The vast majority of funds will be utilized for this.
- Set up the family with a temporary place to stay in Egypt, while it is determined what the best path forward for them is.
- Cover some of their initial living costs while in Egypt. We hope to provide enough for at least a couple of months. They need time and space to breathe after being in Gaza during this genocide.
- After all of the above is accomplished, additional funds will be utilized to help me through my current situation so that I can be of more support to my family. I have taken on the responsibility of their care during this very precarious and uncertain time and into the future.
My personal situation/circumstances are described below:
Like so many Palestinians, I am profoundly affected by the assault on Gaza. Since the beginning of the bombardment on Gaza last month, I have barely managed to sleep, work, focus, eat, or function at all. The constant worry for my family’s safety has taken a significant toll on my well-being.
Thank you for your openness to hearing about the situation of my family and I. Palestinian voices are often silenced, making it challenging to raise awareness about our situation and seek support. Safe, supportive, judgment-free community is vital for us. Thank you for your support and understanding during these trying times. Your solidarity means the world to me.
Any and all contributions are deeply appreciated. Please, please share this campaign widely amongst your friends, communities, networks, and anyone that might be inspired to be of assistance. A family’s future truly depends on it.
