Recovery Fund for Karen Poynter

Karen was in a horrible car accident on April 15, 2024, in Somerset Kentucky, and was life-flighted to UK Hospital in critical condition.
In one week, she would have her spleen removed, much of her small and large intestines removed, and be rushed into surgery more than once to stop internal bleeding. She would have numerous abdominal surgeries and several surgeries on broken bones in both of her legs. She suffered broken ribs, and spinal injuries, and yet – God miraculously spared her life. Her husband never left her side, and her 3 children were constantly keeping vigil at the hospital an hour from their home.

She spent 45 days in the hospital, much of that in intensive care.
On May 31, 2024 - after 10 surgeries, 125 units of blood, skin grafts, and new internal hardware - she got to come home! She was temporarily still in a wheelchair and still had drainage tubes and an ostomy bag and contraptions on her legs – but she was home. Since then, she has had more surgeries and more doctor visits and has recently started physical therapy to begin walking again.
She is still facing numerous surgeries up ahead, primarily to remove the ostomy bag in a few months and reattach and reconnect her healing intestines. She may need more surgeries on one of her legs, and she still has a drainage tube in her abdomen. She uses lots of medical supplies every single day and the cost of physical therapy and doctor’s appointment and traveling an over an hour to see her specialist in Lexington is costly. She is facing hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical expenses. Karen has obviously not been able to work since the accident and it will likely be many more months (possibly a year) until she can work again. She is currently awaiting social security approval, but that takes so long sometimes.

Karen takes care of others. She has done so her whole life. She has always been the busy one up doing all the things, caring for her husband and her children and her friends. She is active in church and loves Jesus more than anything. If you are blessed to know her, you know she loves God and loves others. She is not used to being the one that needs care and help. But now is our chance to shine on her!

Praise God, she is healing, but it will take time. In the meantime…she needs help. Her family needs help. She needs us to stand in the gap. Her life today, in EVERY way, is completely different from what it was prior to April 15. She praises God every single day for sparing her life and for what He has done for her. Let’s be God hands and feet to her and her family. The Bible calls us to bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2).

Will you be a burden-bearer for her and her family?

Please keep them in your prayers above all. She is not sleeping well, and her body desperately needs rest for good recovery. Pray and be Jesus’ hands and feet to her and Colt and the kids!
