Please help Kat, Ben, Gary & Theo keep their home

Hi there! Our names are Kat and Ben, and our cats' names are Gary and Theo. We appreciate you checking on us and are deeply grateful for any help you can offer!

We have been struggling to keep afloat after a series of unfortunate circumstances impacted us back-to-back, throughout the past couple of years. We are out of money and credit to use to sustain our lives. We do our best to hold onto hope, but it's been SO incredibly hard on us having to overextend ourselves for such a prolonged period of time. Day after day, we pick up pieces, scrimp, scrounge, and try to hold onto hope. We have barely managed to avoid crashing and burning out completely, thanks to family and friends, and because we are FIGHTERS! It has actually felt surreal at times, as if this series of unfortunate events were written or orchestrated by some ill-tempered omniscient being, preventing recovery from one blow after another, as we fight on with diminishing strength. It's not easy having to swallow pride and reach out for help, but we love our little family and our home, and we really need help. We will not give up on each other or our dreams.

A Breakdown of the Unfortunate Series of Events & Circumstances:

-Early 2020: We caught COVID while living in San Francisco, both barely got through it, had to put off plans to move to Louisville due to illness and lockdowns, forced to pay expensive SF rent while the crime, addiction, mental health problems began to surge in the city. Surrounded by people suffering, nearly dying on our front steps. Because of all this, we push forward on our plan to move.

-Mid-2020: Packed all of our belongings into a UHAUL (while still recovering from illness, during heatwave) and drove 2,500 miles from SF to Louisville with my car in tow and Theo kitty in the middle seat. Unpacked and moved into new home while still ill and suffering from extreme heat. Ben does manage to secure a job.

-Late 2020-21: Long COVID, political climate, extreme heat, and mental health issues plague our new living situation and Ben's ability to work. He loses job, begins search for a new one.

-Mid-2021: Kat suffers months of hives and restricted breathing. Both of us are completely overwhelmed with anxiety and depression. We discover that our storage unit has been broken into and thousands of dollars of belongings were stolen. Police report was filed, but nobody was caught and nothing was recovered. Insurance covered less than half the total worth of the stolen belongings.

-Late 2021-22: Ben is laid off from new job right before holiday break, days before Christmas, through no fault of his own. We had to start a gofundme then too, which kept us from losing our place and kept the electricity on. (THANK YOU!!) Ben finds a new job.

-Late 2022-23: Ben is laid off again, right before Thanksgiving this time. Sewer back-up floods our basement on Christmas Day, destroying our belongings and encroaching on the furnace, washer, and dryer. A plumber has to auger the main sewer from our house 3 separate times, taking weeks before we can safely take showers, clean dishes, or wash our clothes. Stress and depression overwhelms both of us, seasonal affective disorder truly sets in. Ben and Kat continue to job search, but job market is now slow, health and direness of financial issues currently impede the process severely.
