Help Kat Fight

Donation protected
Wednesday morning, April 23rd, Kat was driving in the rain, took a turn too quickly, and hydroplaned off the road and into a tree. She was trapped there, we don’t know how long, until a kind soul named Scott found her and called 911, and a state trooper and an ambulance came. She was still breathing, but unconscious.
It took them 1 and a half hours to cut her from the wreck. They transported her to the Palestine hospital, and started doing things to try to help her, along with running tests, intubating her so she had a ventilator to help her breathe, etc.
One of the tests they ran was a CT scan, and at the time it did show blood in the brain. She was in critical condition however, and so they made the decision to send her to a hospital in Tyler that is better equipped to treat her. On the way here, her condition worsened. She went from breathing on her own with the assistance of the ventilator, to needing the ventilator to breathe. Her blood pressure also went haywire, so they started supplying 3 types of blood pressure medication to help her heartbeat and blood pressure steady.

Once at the Tyler hospital, they ran another CT scan, but this time with contrast. It showed very little blood in her brain, and they believed there to be no circulation to the brain any longer. The Neurosurgeon told our mom that this means that her brain had started swelling, and that according to their knowledge, she wasn’t going to make it. They told us that she was brain dead, and no one comes back from that.

Legal brain death could only be pronounced after a few tests have been run. One of those is called an Apnea test. They performed that at 2 am Thursday morning, April 24th. The test is to see if the patient can breathe on their own, without the ventilator. She cannot. The doctors have since been pushing our parents to pull the plug, as they don’t think there’s hope anymore.

Here’s the thing about Kat though, that they don’t know. Kat is a fighter. She’s strong. She’s the most stubborn, headstrong, and hotheaded person I know. If you’ve ever read Little Women, Jo is Kat to a “T”.
She’s fiercely loyal, funny, incredibly sweet, ferociously protective, smart, and poetic.
She’s the momma and protector of her sweet piggies, Pudding and Bacon.

She believes in miracles. I believe in miracles. I believe that if anyone can pull through this, it’s gonna be Kat. I’ve heard stories of people recovering from this, and I know she can too. My entire family and I have been praying nonstop for her recovery. So many people have stopped by to see her and tell her she’s going to make it.

Kat is one of my best and closest friends. I’ve known her since she was born, and while we would fight when we were little, we always made up, usually sooner than later.
I need this miracle.
Please, add your prayers to mine, to our families, and to all of Kat’s many loved ones, and pray for this miracle. For Kat to not end up as just a car accident statistic, but for her to be returned to her life, to us, and to her pets that love her so much.

We know she’s still here. We know she’s still fighting. And even though they are trying to convince us to pull the plug, we are going to keep fighting for her.

She’s already proving to us that she’s here. We have had someone with her constantly, ever since she got to the ICU here in Tyler, and while having her hand held, she’s moved her thumb a total of 6 times for 3 people.

I believe in this miracle. My family believes in this miracle. Please, believe with us.

Help us help Kat. Help us fight to keep her here, and to help her keep fighting. Please help us get her the care she needs, to be able to get through this.
