Katherine Adams Fights Cancer
Donation protected
Katherine Hobart Adams was airlifted to UMC the Tuesday before Christmas with an adrenal hemorrhage (very rare and life threatening condition). The bleeding was stopped that night which answered many of our prayers. Unfortunately, the CT showed a large mass believed to be fed by the adrenal. On January 11, 2017, Katherine had surgery to have the mass removed. The surgery ended up being more extensive than planned. They had to remove her kidney, spleen, part of pancreas, part of her diaphragm, adrenal gland and of course the tumor. The good thing is her left side was involved and we can live without these organs. On January 18th, Katherine received the news that the tumor was malignant and she was diagnosed with ACC (Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma). There was NO cancer found in the other organs removed. This type of cancer is so rare and is usually stage 3 or 4 when found. Katherine is STAGE 2!!! PRAISE GOD! Because it is so rare, Katherine was referred to the University of Michigan Cancer Center to see a doctor who specializes in adrenal cancer. Of course, we wanted nothing but the best for our precious Katherine. So...off to Michigan they go. On Feb. 21st, Katherine and Craig met with a team of doctors at the University of Michigan Cancer Center. Here she learned she tested positive for Lynch Syndrome, a genetic mutation that puts her at increased risk for cancer. The team of doctors came up with a treatment plan. The plan is that Katherine will receive 5 weeks of radiation and then Mitotane therapy, an oral chemotherapy, for 5 years. With all this being said, Katherine and Craig have decided to temporaily relocate their family to Michigan where Katherine can be under the supervised care of her doctors for the next several weeks while she recieves radiation. On Monday, March 6th, Katherine, Craig, and the kids will leave for Michigan to start their journey to help Katherine fight this cancer. If you know Katherine, you know there are just absolutely not enough words to describe her. She is the most loving, kind, caring person anyone could ever meet. She always has the most beautiful smile. When she speaks, her words always leave a everlasting memory. Katherine's love for her husband Craig and two children, James (3) and Kate (2), is like nothing else in this world. It's fierce, forever, and will let nothing stand in its path and that means SHE WILL BEAT THIS CANCER! She has been so strong and uplifting throughout this whole process so far. Katherine has always been there to help other people in time of need. Now, its our turn to help her. I can not even begin to imagine the expenses that have accumulated and will continue to accumulate through this process. Craig and Katherine need to focus on fighting this cancer and not have to worry about the finacial burden that comes along with it. They have been so ovejoyed with all the love and support they have received. We decided to set this page page up for anyone who would like to make a donation to Katherine and Craig to help them during this difficult time. We ask that you please continue to pray for Katherine and her family. Pray for doctors as they oversee the treatment for her and most of all please pray for strength and healing of our precious Katherine!
