Help Kathi Leigh Recover From Her Stroke

As some of you may already know, back on October 26th our mother Kathi Leigh suffered from a severe stroke. Fortunately, after being found by her boyfriend she was transported to Albany Medical Center where she received amazing help in their Intensive Care Unit. After multiple medical procedures and spending 3 weeks in the ICU, she then spent 2 more months in different rehabilitation facilities. Due to current medical staffing shortages, she was not being cared for properly and her progression was being hindered. Ultimately, it became unsafe for her to stay there, and my family made the decision to bring her home.

Kathi has been home for just over a month now, working through her next chapter of recovery. As with any stroke, the recovery is a marathon effort that requires extensive time and financial resources. Her incident has left her with very little movement capability on the right side of her body, and the need to relearn many basic skills such as eating, talking and walking. Currently, she requires 24/7 care and a home health aide to assist with all daily activities. Our goal is to raise enough to cover the costs of her care for the next year. Any remaining funds will be used towards the costs of her medical equipment and outpatient therapy. We are creating this fund to help support her through the hardest time of her life, and to give her the best shot at getting stronger without the stress and worry of financial impacts.

If you know Kathi, you know she is quick to take care of others. She is a great mother, friend and neighbor. She has been such a strong support in her community of Ballston Spa over the years, working for a not-for-profit childcare center and volunteering countless hours as a dedicated member of the local rotary club.
