Help Kathryn Nichols' Recovery

My name is Rebecca and I'm setting up this GoFundMe to help the Nichols family because they are always helping others, and now they are in the unfortunate position to be the ones that need the help. Kathryn was making tanghulu and after taking the bowl of hot sugar-water from the microwave she stumbled and lost control of the bowl, spilling the mixture. It was a freak accident that left a large area on her left arm, including the elbow joint, badly burned. She has been at the Grossman burn hospital since Monday, had her first surgery on Tuesday morning and has her second surgery tomorrow (Friday) morning. We are hoping this is the last surgery, but the doctors can't say for sure until they get back into the wound and further diagnose.

Once the surgeries are over, she will have a skin graft from her thigh to replace the missing skin on her arm. If all goes well and there isn't a third surgery, she will be in the hospital for another week and then will come home for the remainder of her recovery, with possibly daily trips back to the burn hospital for check ups. Recovery will include daily wound dressing changes and the need to make sure there is no further trauma to the burn area. What this means is that, as much as she wants to get back to school and "be a kid" again, Kathryn will have to remain home for a while. And through this all, Kathryn has been the biggest trooper and is still her silly self (most of the time...when the pain meds are working!)

Now comes the help, that will be hard for Steve and Jaime to accept because they are way more comfortable on the giving end, but is what they need in this unfortunate situation. A lot of you may know, but Steve is a small business owner and Jaime is a self-employed nurse, which translates well to being a caregiver for her sweet girl, but not so good from the standpoint that neither of them get paid if they don't work. Of course there will also be lots of medical bills...the doctors and nurses at the burn hospital are amazing, but unfortunately they are not in-network providers under their insurance.

P.S. Kathryn has started talking about wanting to be a burn nurse when she grows up, how sweet is that! And Steve and Jaime want to donate anything they don't use for Kathryn's care back to the Grossman Burn Center.
