Help Katie Belcher Battle Breast Cancer

Writing these words may be the single most difficult thing I have ever had to do. Not because I don't have the words to say but because asking for help has never been an easy thing for me to do. I am the perpetual caregiver. The one who wants to make those around her happy sometimes at the cost of her own peace and happiness. The problem solver, the one who can make it better without any assistance.

But the time has come to humble myself and ask for help. Not just for me but for my family. On April 20th I received the call diagnosing me with ER+ PR+ HER2- Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Stage 3 Breast Cancer. I will soon begin 20 weeks of Chemo followed by surgery and radiation. I will be unable to work during this time.

Thank God my medical insurance will cover most of my treatment and surgery, but the time I will be out of work (roughly 7 months) will immensely impact my family's financial situation. My employer only offers me 100 days half pay as we do not pay into State disability. I also may not be able to sing and fulfill my duties as a liturgical musician during my treatment this will also directly impact our finances.

I am a strong and God-fearing woman. I know I will beat this disease. The worry of how we will pay bills or put food on the table is my biggest stressor. Whether I am family, friend, co-worker, soccer mom, teacher, fellow parishioner or neighbor I hope that if I or my family have touched your life in any way that you will find it in your heart to help relieve this financial burden.
