Help Katie Get Her Car To TX

Have you ever been in survival mode, unsure of what the next day may hold, but driven to better the life of yourself and your child?

That's where I'm at.

Hi! My name is Katie Kopecki and up until last week I lived in the SF Bay Area in California, living in a (frankly) toxic home environment and unable to work due to my child's v status. My financial, emotional, and physical security were all starving for change and I had to get out of the state.

Last Wednesday, I uprooted my entire life to move my baby & I out to The Woodlands, Texas to build a better life for ourselves, all in just 2 (oversized) suitcases, a duffel bag, a stroller, & a diaper bag.

I am probably one of the most resourceful people you will ever meet, so in my short few days here I have secured a car seat and highchair for my baby, food, temporary housing, and I am currently finalizing a job and an apartment.

I moved to The Woodlands because in my search for the best and safest places to raise a family in the USA, The Woodlands kept coming up. It is an incredibly beautiful place, covered in trees that they are forbidden from tearing down. The tranquility in daily life is impressive and has done a number on my soul already.

They have highly rated schools, including a variety of preschools to choose from where my son could attend & I could work. Finally, I could see a brighter future for my son & I.

Since moving here, I have been met with so much kindness, sincerity, and generosity. I have found so much peace in these last few days, although they have been some of the busiest (and toughest) problem solving days of my life. Despite having left everyone I've ever known and loved to move to this new place, I know I made the right choice for my son.

The only caveat to this move is there is no public transportation in The Woodlands. You NEED a car to get around. But here's the thing -- I HAVE a car ... back in California. I couldn't afford to ship it, given I haven’t been working a full time job in a long while, nor drive (alone) the 2-3 days it would've taken with a crying baby in the backseat.

I have created this fundraising campaign to ask for help when I need it most. I need roughly $1,000 to be able to send my car to The Woodlands via freight, and I know I can get there with help. It terrifies me to be so open about my situation as I am an extremely private person, but since becoming a mother, nothing matters more to me than the safety and security of my baby. I am not afraid to ask for help when I need it and to be resourceful when the need arises.

So if you have it in your heart to help a single mother in need, if you are in a place where you can, it would mean the absolute world to me. Thank you for reading about my journey and for considering helping me during the most difficult life transition I’ve ever encountered.
