Help Katrina Fight For Her Life
Thank you in advance to everyone who has donated to help Katrina and her family get through this heartbreaking time. We are so grateful for your support, financially and emotionally.
Dear friends, old and new, we need your help.
Our beautiful friend Katrina is in the fight of her life, she has recently been diagnosed with a Glioma Brain Tumour. Unfortunately this particular brain tumour is a tricky one, that only the best neuro-surgeon can operate on.
Katrina is married to her supportive husband Seth, and together they have two beautiful girls, Ayla and Indi. With both girls under 7 years old, they need their mum to guide them through life, and see them grow, make their dreams come true and have children of their own. They need their mum, and Katrina desperately wants to be around to be there for them.
For those that don’t know Katrina, let us quickly tell you about her; Katrina has the biggest heart. If this was one of us that was in her position, she would be rallying to get help. And we mean rallying. She’s the sort of person who would pay for a stranger’s groceries without thinking twice. She’s the life of a party. She’s the sort of person who lights up a room. So, we’re going to fight this for Katrina. We’re going to rally, and beg, and make this life-saving surgery happen, and we hope you’ll rally with us.
THE BACKSTORY
Eight weeks ago Katrina was experiencing headaches and vertigo. She put this down to being busy, and juggling work and parenting her two beautiful, busy girls. After losing her balance, she went to see her GP and within a week, she discovered the news that no one wants to hear; she had a brain tumour. A Glioma Brain Tumour.
Unfortunately the Glioma Brain Tumour is a challenging tumour. Once this type of tumour grows, it generally turns malignant and grows into the cells, making it extremely difficult to remove.
Enter our superhero; Dr. Charlie Teo. Charlie Teo is Australia’s most proficient and experienced neuro-surgeon, and we were lucky enough to have him consider Katrina’s case. Katrina has met with Dr. Teo who has advised that this tumour needs to be removed urgently, before it grows. He is willing to do this risky, yet life-saving surgery. Dr. Teo has said that there is a 15% chance that he’ll be able to remove the tumour without it returning and give Katrina her full life, and Ayla and Indi their beautiful mum back. This is the chance that Katrina is willing to take, and we want to help support her all the way. But we need to act fast. Each week that passes, the risk of the tumour growing and being inoperable rises.
THE COSTS
Unfortunately life-saving surgery is expensive. The cost of the surgery itself is $100,000, not including recovery and rehab. We can’t put a price on our health, but Katrina’s tumour has done that for her. We’re hoping to collect as much as we can to help Katrina take this opportunity for surgery with Dr. Teo, and return to living her beautiful life. We’re aiming to raise $130,000 so that we can help Katrina cover the surgery, travel costs, recovery and rehab.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This is where we ask for your help. We know that life is busy and expensive, so we want you to know that whatever you can offer to help, is enough. Every little bit counts. If you can forgo the cost of a coffee today (around $4) we would be so grateful. If you can forgo coffees for a week ($28) or even a month ($120) we would be super grateful. Anything you can do to help will make a difference. Sharing Katrina’s heartbreaking story with your friends, and spreading her story far and wide, will help bring more people to rally around and make this life-saving surgery happen.
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS
Thank you for donating and for your kind words. From us, her friends who adore her, and on behalf of Seth, Ayla and Indi (who, by the way, don’t know what their mummy is battling as we’re all trying to keep life as normal as possible for them), thank you. We are so grateful for your support. Thank you, a million times over. Together we will fight this. We will update as regularly as we can.
Please feel free to share with your friends and family, and ask them to do the same. The more support we can gather, the more chance we have of fighting this tumour and giving Katrina her life back. x
