Help Katy's Rebuild

Donation protected
Katy's Corner Cafe has been a fixture in the Central District for close to 20 years. As you probably know, Katy's is not just another coffee shop. Katy's is special.

Katy's is a hub of community. As the neighborhood has changed, rents have gone up, and many local businesses have come and gone, Katy's has remained.

Katy's serves great coffee and food, but that's not why people return again and again and again. People come back because very quickly Katy's feels like an extension of your family.

And that's because of Katy. Katy has created a space that reflects her--warm, welcoming, kind, caring. Katy is the kind of person who will leave her cafe in the middle of the day to give a customer a ride. She is the kind of person who will hand her tips to a person who is down on their luck, give a cup of coffee or a sandwich to anyone who needs one, regardless of their ability to pay, and go into her own pocket to help a regular pay their rent or a medical bill.

Katy and her staff have given the people of this community so much. And now they need our support.

Many small businesses in Seattle are struggling right now. Many have closed. Katy's recently experienced its slowest January ever and has been forced to reduce the employees' hours.

Making matters worse, the cafe has experienced a string of financial setbacks over the past two months. A few days before Christmas last December, someone smashed the glass in Katy's front door. On Christmas Day, someone smashed one of the big glass windows and robbed the cafe.

Then the fridge died. Then the fan in the espresso machine broke. Then, when it seemed like nothing else could go wrong, the city informed Katy that she needed to replace the sinks in the cafe with a new 3-sink installation. Katy does not own the building, which is over 100 years old, but has to pay for these repairs.

All told, Katy's needs to raise about $15,000 to keep the business going.

If Katy's or its wonderful people mean something to you, now is the time to show it.

Please give whatever feels right. Thank you so much!
