Help Kayla & Luke Continue Their Adoption Journey

Donation protected
Adoption is a fragile journey with many layers, but one defined by hope, faith, and love

But unfortunately, adoption is also an expensive journey, even when the adoption fails and the baby is not placed with the adoptive parents. It seems too painful to be true, but just as in adoptions that are successfully completed, social workers, lawyers, and other professionals have rendered countless expensive hours of service, all of which must be reimbursed to the tune of thousands–or even tens of thousands–of dollars.

For Kayla and Luke, their recent failed adoption came particularly late in the process, after months of relationship-building with the birth mother, complex planning and negotiations, legal agreements, several days of labor and anticipation, and almost a week in the hospital loving on the sweetest baby boy.

Expenses accrued with each passing day, depleting their carefully-managed funds. It was a precious and painful experience, certainly, but also one of the most devastatingly expensive ways by which an adoption could fail, because it drained them of the two most scarce resources in the adoption process–time and money.

No one can give back to Kayla and Luke their lost time. But we can help them rebuild the financial means necessary to continue toward their dream of building their family. If you are able, would you consider joining us in contributing toward their continuing adoption journey?

***************

Thank you so much for loving Kayla and Luke and following their adoption story over these last months and years. Although nothing takes away the pain they’ve experienced with this adoption, your love and prayers are an immeasurable comfort. They have written the following to share more about how they’re doing and how they’re processing the loss of this adoption.

We began our journey with hope that we’d finally create beauty from ashes after some of the toughest chapters of our life following years of remaining fairly private with the pain of infertility and loss. Our adoption journey hasn’t been one like the poetic stories you read about in fairy tales or see on tv. During our years in the process, we've learned so much; we experienced several matches that have fallen through in heartbreaking ways, but have held tightly to our faith and remained hopeful that someday we will build the family we’ve wished for and dreamed of for so long.

In July of 2023 we met and were matched with a birth mom...it seemed our lifelong dream to build our family was finally coming true, and it would be a boy! While we understood how tenuous and delicate the adoption could be, we'd learned so much over our three years in the process, so we held the details with fragile and prayerful hope, joy, and faith...trusting the One who orders all our steps.

We chose to share only portions of our adoption journey, to finally celebrate our joy, and to enlist prayer and support from those around us when the time came for baby boy to be born in October. Our joy quickly turned to sorrow as it became clear birth mom was choosing a different path. After four precious days of being in a nursery cocoon loving on the sweetest little baby boy, many prayers, tears, and so many hopes and dreams, we left the hospital with tear stained cheeks, broken hearts, and empty arms…we loved and lost yet again. We were broken.

The road back home was paved in sorrow heavier than we knew was possible. We found ourselves facing grief after shattered dreams once again. While we had no idea how to carry on - we'll carry those tender moments of love with us always - we are recommitting to the hope we once had and not giving up…it’s our dream to become parents, to build our family, and to invest in making our corner of the world a better place. And we believe one way we will make that happen is through adoption. We will not allow the hardship and heartache we've experienced to harden our hearts or deter us from the path we feel called to follow.

Though we find ourselves in a place needing to rebuild from the ground up once again, we still hold tightly to our faith and fragile hope that our miracle is still to come…

Thank you for loving and supporting us. 2023 has shown us how much we need our village and how much ours means to us ❤️❤️
