Fundraiser for Kayla Walker's Family - PTE Surgery

Donation protected
On May 29, 2023, Kayla Walker, a proud wife and mother of two, will undergo Pulmonary Thromboendartectomy (PTE) surgery to remove a blood clot in her pulmonary artery. This will be Kayla's second PTE surgery - her first was in 2019. The surgery was initially a success, however, Kayla's pressures weren't high enough to keep the artery open. Over the last ten years, the clot has closed off 100% of the blood flow to Kayla's right lung. Kayla, her husband, and her children are hopeful that this second PTE will allow her to resume her normal quality of life.

For the last several months, Kayla's condition has limited her ability to enjoy the things she loves. Kayla's heart has become enlarged and she is often very short of breath, to the point where walking causes her to struggle with breathing. Kayla has been working remotely, and while she is grateful to her company for allowing her to work from home, she misses the social aspect of being in the office and misses her work friendships. Her condition makes her sensitive to viral diseases, so in addition to working remotely, she has also missed out on opportunities to take vacations and enjoy traveling with her husband and two young boys. Kayla also relies on oxygen daily - and not only is the oxygen itself expensive, but she also has been continuing other treatments for comfort and to prepare her body for surgery.

Kayla's PTE surgery will take place at UC San Diego. UC San Diego Health is the worldwide leader in PTE and Kayla is grateful for the opportunity to be treated by the best medical team in this field. UC San Diego is affiliated with LaJolla Family House, where Kayla and her family will be staying during her recovery.
Insurance will not cover this accommodation. The expenses needed to allow Kayla to have a longer, healthier life, and better quality of life, are great. Kayla's income will be reduced during this time and daily costs for her support will be hundreds of dollars per day. My hope will this fundraiser is to relieve Kayla from her worries about expenses so that she can focus on healing and recovery.

At the young age of 40, Kayla has experienced a variety of medical conditions and continues to rely on her strong faith, family and friends to help her through these challenging times. I ask that you pray for this family and consider donating to this page to help cover their expenses and to support Kayla on this difficult but necessary medical journey. You can also donate and receive progress updates about Kayla's surgery through caringbridge.org.
