Help Kayla with the loss of her best friend and SD Levi

My name is Courtney and I am heart broken as I write this. My amazing friend Kayla has been dealt such a crap hand for 2024, in the beginning of the year she unexpectedly lost her brother due to a heart condition that was undiagnosed and is still grieving, now another indescribable event has surfaced, Kayla’s service dog of over 8 years Levi is going to be put to sleep. This came very unexpectedly and has shattered Kayla as well as those around her who love Levi. Levi has been with Kayla since he was just a few months old, she rescued him but in reality he rescued her. Levi became Kayla’s psychiatric task medical dog after roughly 2 years of proper training and has been her life line to the world not only inside her home but past her front door and into the world we all have to function in daily. The beginning of this week Levi was acting strange and showing signs of what everyone thought was a UTI. On Tuesday Kayla took Levi to his Dr at VCA Harwich to discover a UTI was not the issue, Levi had a massive softball size tumor on his spleen as well as one closer to his prostate. Kayla immediatly called me and I had her come to my house to be able to break. The vets needed Levi seen immediatly for an ultra sound so Dr Fic at VCA Weymouth ( she has been Levi’s internal specialist for years) got him an emergency appointment this morning at 8am ( July 5th) I received a call from Kayla stating the news was not good and that they needed to do a CT on Levi to dig deeper as to what the extent of these masses were and he would be rushed into surgery today once know…… roughly 6 hours later I received the news no dog auntie, service dog handler or best friend wants to hear…. Levi will need to be put to sleep.. this mass was not there 2 months ago when he had his annual service dog wellness check with his internist ( yes the same Dr that had to find the catastrophic cancer today in Levi) and now within 2 months Levi’s body is completely filled with cancer. Levi has been Kayla’s everything, as a person who requires a medical tasked service dog myself this is extremely hard to swallow. Kayla has done everything for Levi on every level and he’s always done the same in return. This is not fair, this boy is too important to leave us this soon. Kayla has paid for trupanion insurance on Levi since he was a pup and they will only be covering a certain amount of the medical work done which is HUGE. Levi will be cremated as well and that is going to be costly just ontop of euthanasia.
