Help Kaytlin Overcome Cancer: A Single Mom’s Battle for Her Life and Her Family

Hello, my name is Christina, and I’m a nurse who had the privilege of working alongside Kaytlin's mom for many years. Throughout my career, I’ve seen many people endure tough challenges, but Kaytlin’s current battle with cancer is one of the hardest. I’m reaching out today because Kaytlin needs our support, and I know together we can help her fight this battle.

Kaytlin is a 31-year-old single mom to a beautiful little girl, Keigan, and right now, she’s facing a battle that no one should have to face. In July 2024, Kaytlin discovered a lump in her breast. After a series of tests, including a biopsy, she was diagnosed with Stage 2, Grade 3 Triple Negative Metastatic Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, an aggressive and fast-growing type of breast cancer. To make things even harder, Kaytlin recently developed pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in her lungs) a dangerous side effect of both cancer and chemotherapy.

Kaytlin started chemotherapy at the end of September 2024 at The Christ Hospital under the care of Dr. Julie Specht. She’s undergoing 20 weeks of treatment, and once the chemotherapy is completed, she will need surgery, though the specifics of the surgery will depend on the results of the chemotherapy and the best course of action after. Kaytlin is doing everything she can to stay strong, not just for herself but for her precious daughter, Keigan.

I want to share a little more about Kaytlin’s journey and the strength she’s shown throughout her life. Kaytlin grew up in Cincinnati, attending and graduating from Mother of Mercy High School on the west side. Before her diagnosis, Kaytlin worked as a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) at the University of Cincinnati and as an STNA. She’s dedicated to caring for others and has always put her heart into her work. But right now, Kaytlin is unable to work due to the debilitating side effects of chemotherapy and the other medical complications she’s facing. Starting in December 2024, her job will stop paying her, and she won’t have any income until her disability claim is processed, which could take 6 to 8 months. This puts her and Keigan in a dire financial situation.

Kaytlin’s journey has been incredibly challenging. Her family has always been close-knit and would have been a great source of support during this time. However, she lost her mother in 2019, and shortly after, her Papa and Gigi passed away in 2020. The grief from those losses has been immeasurable, and now, the weight of cancer has made this time even harder for her. On top of everything, Kaytlin suffered a nearly fatal accident in April 2023, breaking her ankle in multiple places and requiring two surgeries to repair it. Later that year, she tore her ACL and MCL, requiring another surgery. The physical toll of these injuries, combined with the emotional stress of losing her family and now fighting cancer, has left Kaytlin feeling more alone than ever.

That’s why I’m reaching out today, Kaytlin needs our help. She’s a fighter, but she can’t do this alone.

The funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to covering Kaytlin’s medical bills, living expenses, and the daily necessities that she and Keigan need to get by while she continues her chemotherapy treatments. Every donation, no matter how small, will help alleviate the financial burden and allow Kaytlin to focus on healing and taking care of her daughter.

Once Kaytlin is cancer-free, she plans to go back to school to become an oncology infusion nurse, a goal driven by her own experience and desire to help others going through the same battle. Her journey has sparked a passion to support other cancer patients, and I know she will be an amazing nurse, offering empathy, care, and understanding to those who need it most.

Please consider supporting Kaytlin and Keigan. Any donation is deeply appreciated, whether it’s a financial contribution, a prayer, or simply sharing this campaign with your network. Together, we can help Kaytlin make it through this fight.

Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support. It means the world to Kaytlin, Keigan, and all who love them.

With love and gratitude,
Christina
