Help Kebra-Seyoun buy a new bow!
Hi everyone,
I created this Go-Fund-Me to help me buy a new bow!
My name is Kebra-Seyoun Charles and I’m a classical double bassist in the North East. I just finished my undergraduate degree at the New England Conservatory and have been awarded the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at The Juilliard School, where I will be pursuing my master's degree.
Growing up the son of an African drummer and dancer, I was immediately immersed in the world music at a very early age. This exposure to jazz, gospel, and traditional African music led me to develop a deep appreciation for all forms of music. I now study classical music passionately and am influenced and inspired by ostensibly contrasting genres and musicians. Drawing from my own experiences, I purposefully give prominence to the dance qualities in everything I play. In an effort to collaborate with musicians of other genres, I have performed alongside esteemed improviser and composer Tyshawn Sorey in NEC's Jordan Hall. I have also played in the Slugs’ Saloon installation at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, curated by famed jazz musician and composer Jason Moran, and am a two-time winner of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra’s concerto competition
In my field having a functional instrument and bow is half the battle. I bought my current bow when I first started playing at age 12 and at this level, I need a bow that will aid in my performance, not detract from it. Being able to buy a new bow would make new sounds, articulations, and colors available to my expressive palette (something integral to my success as a solo musician).
Any and all support would mean the world to me and any amount helps!!
Yours,
Kebra-Seyoun Charles
