Help keep Anderson's Bookshops here!

Because Anderson’s Bookshop has been your neighborhood bookseller since 1875, we’ve weathered the Depression, recessions, Spanish Flu, natural disasters, even disco! We’ve battled competition from corporate big box stores, the e-reading revolution and enormous internet rivals. But today, right now, we are facing down a tremendous threat: this coronavirus pandemic.
It’s hit us all hard and stifled our world. We may not all be infected, but we are all affected. We cannot thank you enough for your loyalty and helping us to thrive. Our business has relied on cash flow and foot traffic over generations as your home for books here in Illinois. Without those channels, our future is uncertain.
For more information about how business works in our industry, including our incredibly small profit margins, please visit this informational website from our national trade organization.
We hope to stand strong despite the unprecedented days that are wreaking havoc on us as a small, independent, family business. Our three bookshops (Naperville, Downers Grove and La Grange), our Anderson’s Toyshop (Naperville) and our school bookfair division (Aurora) need assistance to support our hardworking employees, pay our rents, and allow us to serve you again once this crisis is over.
Think of the millions of words that have filled our shelves and kept you coming back. Here we’re focused on just four: We Need Your Help!
Your donation to our GoFundMe effort today will help keep us here tomorrow. And we promise you: the day when we can again throw our doors wide open and gather around great books will be cause for a grand celebration. And you’re invited!
Please also boost our reach by sharing this plea with your friends, families and contacts. #smallbusinessrelief #saveindiebookstores
Thank you so much for your support!
For those asking, yes, we have applied for the government funding that is available to us. While we are hopeful that it will help as well, many questions remain regarding when it will arrive and for how long it will last. These incredibly generous donations will help us support our employees and cover our rent at a time when our sales are down more than 50%. Again, THANK YOU!
