Help keep Cathy and her family in their home!

Donation protected
Update, 9/28/2023: Thanks to the generosity of the incredible donors to this campaign, we were able to meet the initial goal of $7077! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! The outpouring of care from the community has been amazing to see!

$7077 is the amount the property manager told Cathy was owed in a letter earlier this month. After contacting them today about paying off the debt and cancelling the eviction, Cathy has now been informed that the total amount owed by 10/1 will be $13,726.78 - far more than she was initially told she owed, and far more than any family in her situation can be expected to come up with in such a short period of time. However, she has been assured if she can come up with this amount, they will halt the eviction. While she will be working with attorneys to determine why there is such a large discrepancy, we've decided to raise the amount of our goal to make sure we've done all we can to raise the amount needed. Again, all funds will go to keeping Cathy and her family housed. Please continue to share this fundraiser far and wide! Thank you!

---------------
Cathy Pick and her family are facing eviction and homelessness this week. Cathy is a substitute teacher, parent, and is active in her community. Cathy and her spouse Kevin recently dealt with job losses that caused them to fall behind on rent. This led to them missing rent last year, and later missing their August payment on a monthly plan to repay the back rent. Their landlord at Lakeside Landing Apartments, which is Mission Rock Residential, filed for eviction, and the Pierce County Sheriff is likely to evict their family this week. Cathy, Kevin, and their 14-year-old son have nowhere to go and are facing imminent homelessness. What’s worse is that no shelter will take the whole family, so they face being split apart during this terrible time in their life.

As an educator and a parent of a child in Tacoma Public Schools, if Tacoma for All's Initiative 1 were already in effect, Cathy and her family would be able to stay housed during the school year, allowing them the time needed to repay their back rent. Lakeside Landing Apartments has historically been one of the least expensive family apartment complexes in Tacoma, but now neighbors are getting hit with huge rent increases! Pierce County has seen rents rise 43% in the last 5 years, displacing families like Cathy's.

We want to support Cathy and her family in remaining in their home, and prevent them from becoming homeless. Cathy and Kevin now both have jobs and can pay the rent going forward, they just need a chance to recover from their financial setbacks. The amount we are requesting would cover the back rent and late fees, allowing them to breathe.

Please donate what you can so Cathy and her family can remain together and housed. Thank you!
