Dario Minatta is the only son and middle child of a close and loving family from the small town of Sonoma Valley, CA. He is also a third year college student studying business at the University of Nevada, Reno. However, on January 10th, 2018, in Breckenridge, CO, Dario suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury while vacationing with his girlfriend's family. Dario endured a two hour ambulance ride to St. Anthony's Hospital where he then underwent emergency surgery to replace his shattered C6 vertebrae before his family could reach him. Nine days in the ICU was excruciating for Dario and his family but knowing he was only fifteen minutes from a world renowned spinal cord rehabilitation center
(Craig Hospital) was truly a blessing... Until his family was told that their California health insurance was denying him treatment there.
Dario's mother, Ally, has been by his side since the accident while his father, Dino, travels every week to Englewood, Colorado to give his son the love and support he needs to recover.
As any parent would, giving Dario the best opportunity to recover has been the Minatta's sole purpose. Fighting their health insurance, they were able to secure Dario's treatment at Craig to maximize his neurological recovery but were told only through April and with minimal coverage.
The Minattas are grateful to have Dario treated at Craig, however this has been an overwhelmingly devastating event in their lives, one in which the
lasting impact is not yet known. Along with tremendous financial burden, the Minattas must prepare themselves for a long road ahead.
Dario is a very humorous, uplifting, loyal and loving human being who has asked his parents everyday since the accident, "I'm a good person. Why
did this have to happen to me?"
