Hi-Fi Cafe - located on the corner of Potter & Kinnickinic - is in desperate need of help to stay open. Due to the Covid Pandemic and quarantine shut down in Milwaukee, business is at an all time low. The three employees working at Hi-Fi before the quarantine shutdown- had to be let go due to the dramatic decline in customers. The two owners, Mary Hart & Peter Steinhoff, have been working 7 days a week to keep their beloved cafe open. Mary is heart-broken to announce that Hi-Fi Cafe WILL be closing within the month, if money is not raised to pay the over due business bills. The $12,000 goal is set with high hopes, not only to catch up on what is due, but keep the cafe a float until a state of normalcy returns.
Originally being the only coffee shop on Kinnickinic Avenue, Hi-Fi is known as Bay View’s Time Warp. It’s easy to get lost in nostalgia when you visit Hi-Fi Cafe. Since the mid-’90s, Hi-Fi has been a source of outstanding conversation, stellar food, drinks, and artistic expression for an eclectic cast of characters. Hi-Fi has always been a magnet for the wanderers, misfits & dreamers. A dimly lit world to forget about phones but instead pick up a vintage magazine or book & start up a conversation with the stranger sitting next to you. Hi-Fi is held near and dear to the hearts of many beloved patrons and employees alike. It is not just a cafe, but a way of life. The music calls to you. The Ma and Pop shop like quality service hugs you. Patience is a virtue when you enter this magical cafe world. Most days, only one person is working, performing all duties of server and chef, everything at Hi-Fi is prepared to order with care. Hi-Fi gives you the opportunity to loose yourself & be who you want to be. People have made life long friends, even life long loves here. A couple even went as far to get married in front of the Cafe’s Jukebox. Hi-fi is not just a cafe, it is a gathering place to escape the complexities of life. It is a “Bay View Staple” unlike an other place in Milwaukee.
I need to add a note here to say that we’re going to keep this campaign active for as long as there is interest in supporting us, and we will be extremely grateful for any additional funds. The truth is that we’re not used to asking for help. Anyone who would like to support us, we encourage you to please do that, and please continue to pass the word. We’re committed to finding a way to bring Hi-Fi Cafe forward, and the support we receive here will help us do that!
We are incredibly thankful to have been in business all these years, and would like to keep moving forward with your help.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
