Help Keep Maines Doll Angel On The Road

Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people? I’ve been wondering that a lot lately and I’m sure many others have too. I have this amazing friend who has been experiencing some hard times recently. This friend is kind-hearted and always has put others first despite being disabled and on Social Security. He is the son of a veteran who proudly served his country. A father who raised his son as a single dad. This friend I’m speaking of always dreamt of having a family but has not found a lady as special as he is to share this dream with. He fills this void by collecting dolls from yard sales, Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace, and other thrift stores. Most people never take the time to ask about his passion for dolls nor do they ask what he does with them. People think the very worst of him and therefore bully him publically on Facebook whenever he asks about dolls people may have to give away. People can be harsh, cruel, and quick to judge sometimes. If these people instead took the time to get to know my friend as our family has they would understand the truth behind his passion. A passion that often brings such heartache from the bullies in this world. The truth is he is like the Santa Clause of Maine. What do I mean by this? He lovingly repairs and cleans the dolls he gathers then adorns them with beautiful new clothes he has found, cleaned, and repaired. He puts hours of careful research into each doll so he fully understands what the doll is and who would be most happy with it. He spends grueling hours searching for these dolls, their clothes, and accessories. Once he has the doll exactly as it once was when it was brand new he does something truly amazing with it. He gifts it to children who otherwise couldn’t afford a new doll. He brings so many smiles to so many faces, especially the faces of the grateful parents. He is like the angel of dolls. I am 52 and had my own experience with his love and kindness. I was recovering from major spinal surgery and was talking to him about my beautiful Barbie dolls which the mice ate in my mom’s attic. I told him how disheartening that was. I didn’t think too much more about the conversation until he showed up with multiple gigantic totes full to the brim with Barbies, accessories, and clothing! He even included a Barbie kayak and pool since he knew how very much I love the water. I was floored! That was the single kindest, most unselfish, most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given me. I have my new Barbies in my room where I admire them and occasionally change their clothes, etc. It may seem childish but, after all I’ve been through as of late it is truly a blessing to escape reality for a few moments and pretend I’m a child again. That kind of gift keeps giving and making me smile long after my lengthy recovery. So where am I going with this? Despite all of the kind-hearted things he has done for others he has never once asked for anything in return even though he spends what little he has to purchase the dolls he so selflessly gives away. This past year has been hard on him. His vehicle is dying fast and soon won’t be driveable anymore. I and many of his other friends have tried everything to find a charity that would donate a car to the disabled son of a Veteran but we simply cannot find one. All leads have ended in disappointment. Should he lose his transportation his mission to bring happiness to those around him will end and he will be unable to stay independent or make his doctor’s appointments. My friend is a quiet and private person. He prefers not to be thrust into the limelight. However, something needs to be done so I have gotten his permission to start this GoFundMe to help raise funds to get the car he badly needs. I hope you find it in your heart to help us achieve this lofty goal. Any way you can help is greatly appreciated. Just remember, by helping my friend you are keeping an amazing passion alive that brings smiles to so many faces. Thank you so much and God bless.
